Best Multiplayer NES games?

Post by Pingfa »

There doesn't seem to be many. Off the top of my head:

Double Dragon
River City Ransom
TMNT
Super Dodgeball
^
All of which I believe have had superior remakes or sequels. Also:

Crash 'n Boys Street Challenge
Chip 'n Dale
Mario games
Shadow of the Ninja

Some I know about but haven't tested:

Monsters in my Pocket
Little Ninja Brothers

That's all I can think of right now. My previous searches for good multiplayer games didn't garner much results. So, anything to add?

I've got a couple NES multi-taps so I've collected a few of the 4 player games, both good and bad. I'd recommend Bomberman, Gauntlet II, and Nintendo World Cup (and I usually hate sports games).

Contra! How could I forget that?
Oh, yeah. Nobody will play it with me. :P

Mighty Final Fight is multiplayer, right?

I think that's all now. Although, I haven't tried Bomberman or Gauntlet because I wasn't sure wether they'd be worth it having had supposedly superior sequels or remakes.

Nintendo World Cup is one to check out, and I haven't played it but... Nightmare on Elm Street is a joke, right? :)

How about Bubble Bobble, Rampage, Blades of Steel, Jeopardy, and Gyromite?

Bubble Bobble and Rampage have superior ports on the Master System.
Blades of Steel I know about but haven't played because I thought it looked like an inferior NHL - I'll give it a go, nonetheless.
I'll also give Jeopardy and Gyromite a go, too. I remember seeing a video of Gyromite and was on the fence as to wether I should get it or not.

Thank you all for the recommendations.

What about Ice Climbers? That's a classic NES multiplayer title. Battletoads is pretty fun but its mostly like Double Dragon.

Mario Bros. (the arcade port) is a really great co-op game. You can also play against each other if you want. Ice Climber is also a good suggestion. Tecmo Bowl is a must.
