R-Type Dimensions - Who here bought it?

I'm not the greatest at SHMUPs (still love them), but I've managed to beat Triggerheart Exelica on two lives and get to the fifth stage on Ikaruga without losing a ship. I played on Easy for both games, but still you wouldn't think R-Type wouldn't smoke me like it did. That last boss in RT1 was freaking insane!

Has this game always been so rough in the difficulty department? It stinks because the only options are Classic and Infinite mode. No other difficulty modifiers.

The original was ASS hard. That's part of R-type's legacy: making you its bitch and you saying "yes sir, I love it!"

Is their a version or iteration of R-Type that doesn't continuously kick you in the balls?

Its very unforgiving, and its worth every cheap death. You switch the graphics to the old school style on the fly. I think Super R-Type for SNES has to be my favorite in the series. Although R-Type Leo comes in at a close second.

I do not believe there is a single entry in the R-Type series which does not demand to be taken very seriously.

The strategy game, but that shouldnt be an R-Type game.

I bought it. It's really amazing when you think about it how much development went into make a 3D version of it based on the compile ROM. Even the R-Type II "3D" zoom out effect was redone in actual 3D.

I finally bought, and beat this game recently. SO AWESOME! I never realized how hard this game was until I played through the "infinite mode". There's no way I could beat it without infinite lives. The spore stage alone made me its bitch like a million times over.

I didn't like infinite mode for this exact reason... the game is not as hard as you think, infinite mode makes you think it is harder! Without infinite mode you have to try again and again before you beat any given section of a stage, as a death restarts you at the beginning or midway through a stage. What this means is, maybe you couldn't beat the game without infinite mode, but you won't get your ass kicked as much in regular play. One could argue that since infinite mode lets you beat the game, it is easier, but I argue that it makes you get your ass kicked so much (death after death non-stop for those who do not know the stages!) that it's showcases the game in a harder way. It allows you to beat the game without learning the stages, which is what you were suppose to do in the game!

Anyways, just some thoughts, glad you enjoyed it!!

R-Type Final. that one just puts you to sleep, then smacks you around a bit when you aren't expecting it.
