I'm amazed at how good the graphics on the PS1 were

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I'm amazed at how good the graphics on the PS1 were

especially for it's time. I mean the system had only 2 megs of video memory to do everything that it did.

Take a look at this if you haven't already for some great examples:

Also as far as games today...anyone else just not impressed no matter how good graphics are these. We are in a time where we almost hit the limit of game graphics and a minor upgrade in the graphics department keeps getting smaller and smaller.

I remember at the time of playing Tomb Raider 1 - what is that? 1996-98, somewhere around there? - that I thought graphics couldn't get any better.

They were truly great at the time, the PS1 was an awesome system...I preferred some of the texture abilities of the N64 at the time, but I loved the PS1.

Now, the only game that has really blown me away graphically is Little Big Planet which looks freaking real at times...

It really depends on the game.

The PS1 era is when prerendered backgrounds were dominant.

The graphics were really something, I played Final Fantasy 9 for the first time a little while ago and I was really surprised with what they had done. If only the N64 used discs, it would have wiped the floor with it. D:

I was mainly a pc gamer at the time of the ps1 so I always thought that they looked like ass. However, the majority of the games look really great on epsxe.

Seeing the reference to Sonic Adventure I suddenly remember how impressive that was. N64 was trying to push the limits with the still blurry donkey kong 64 and then I found a dreamcast kiosk at bestbuy a few months before the system was even out. It was freaking amazing. I still can't believe that system bombed when it blew everything out of the water at launch and for a full year after. And cheaply too!
