Dr Who

Post by Gamerforlife »

Seeing the Lost topic revived has me thinking about other shows I'm enjoying right now. I feel that this show has improved with each season since it's revival under Russell T Davies and it's gone from a show I had a mild interest in to something I really like now.

What do you guys think of this fourth season? I saw the finale online(as BBC America hasn't aired it yet)and it was just fantastic! I won't spoil anything for those who haven't seen it, but it was truly epic with every important character from these past four seasons featured and some absolutely freaking cool surprises. If you're following on BBC America and haven't seen the finale yet, what do you think of the episodes so far? The last one they showed was Left Turn and I really enjoyed that episode too

There's some pretty big news about the show's future after this season, but saying anything about that could be sort of spoilerish too I guess

I still liked Season 28s finale more - yall call it season 2. Cyberman fighting Daleks is something I wanted for a long time. And Blink may be the best episode since the reboot, even though I prefer Clockwork Terrorist.

2nd Doctor is still one of my favorites - if I didnt have to get up in six hours I would have a better response.

Speaking of Dr Who, has anyone else enjoyed Torchwood?

I tried watching the first eps of Series 1

I liked the concept, but the cheese factor seemed quite high. Is it always like that?

The cheese in the new Dr Who is dramatically toned down from the original. Which is a shame, the cheesy production values were kinda the point. The new Dr Who is pretty generic IMO.

That was my first reaction to the show, but it grew on me over time. The show gets better from season to season. I think the current one has cut down on the cheese factor quite a bit, but it's still there in some episodes. Dr Who is interesting in that it can be real cheesy one moment and pretty serious the next. I've learned to tolerate the cheesy moments in light of those moments of great drama, quality dialogue, humor and complex story telling that the show has proven itself capable of many times. Basically I'm saying, no, it's not ALWAYS cheesy, but a certain amount of cheese is just inherent to the show and you get used to it after awhile. The show is just meant to be fun sometimes and doesn't always take itself seriously and I've learned to just go with it. There's always at least a few episodes each season where things are more serious and dramatic, with little to no cheesiness at all. It's sort of an unpredictable show

I also like the fact that Dr Who pretty much explores just about every possible thing Sci Fi has to offer. Pretty much anything goes. You name it and Dr Who has done it, which is no surprise considering it's in the Guiness Book of Records for longest running Sci Fi show ever

I didn't like Torchwood initially either. It seemed derivitive and WAY too obsessed with sex, but season 2 had some solid stories. The show is a bit more up and down in quality overall when compared to Dr Who though. Neither one of the spinoffs are as good as Dr Who(the other being Sara Jane)so I wouldn't say they're required viewing

I've only watched the William Hartnell episodes. I think I'll skip to Tom Baker next.

Torchwood is CSI Miami with Dr Who tie ins. To much mindless sex not enough story for my taste.

The Doctors all have good parts to them, but I will admit I am not very versed in 6 or 7.

I'm a big who fan of old, at did have a full set of every surviving episode until time took its toll on VHS collection anyway.

The climax to the last series was suberb, so many brilliant moments that I wont go into here because I hate spoilers - I always turn over whenever there is a trailer for the next episode comes on because it spoils the dramatic tension if I already that a particular returning character is going to show up or whatever.

I love the new series, still cant beleive they bought it back after all these years and spent a reasonable amount of money on it too. Torchwood is cool too, although I agree that it took a while to settle into itself and get over the fact that the characters can swear and have sex.

I'm a big Who fan, both the old and the new series. I just finished watching "The Talons of Weng-Chiang" and "The Horror of Fang Rock." Good stuff. The last season finale was brilliant. Watch it!
Comics, RPG's, miniatures, and now retrogaming? I guess its time to learn to go without eating...
