Do yourself a favor and check out RED BEARD (1965). This is the perfect time of year to watch this film that examines the human heart, in more way than one.
I'm serious. Put this on your queue, pop some popcorn (or pack a lunch) and get ready for nearly three hours of a study on what it is to be a human being. Hate, jealousy, love, compassion, frustration, learning, growing, it's all there. I am not too familiar with director's Akira Kurosawa's other films, but I will be soon.
RED BEARD will go into my collection of films such as HARVEY, aka, the "there's still hope for humanity" collection. It's not all flowers and rainbows as topics as child brothels come to light, but the movie does heavily touch on what being a human being means and what we can do with our brief time on Earth.

I might get to go see the Hobbit on Sunday - in 2d. But other than that we will be either getting back on our Bond kick tonight with From Russia with Love or watching Any Questions for Ben - just depends on if we want a comedy or not.
Ben Kingsley will play it well, Abigail Breslin I am worried about. But it is Disney, so they threw money at it. Same complaint I had about the first reboot film: It doesn't look like a Star Trek movie to me, it looks a summer action-flick to me. And if they do use Khan, it's not gonna have the same impact that it did the first time because THIS Khan was never in the original T.V. series.
I just better stop while I'm ahead. I'm still gonna go see it because I'm such a big Star Trek fan, and it might be good.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2
I think I've stated this before, but I've never seen any of these films (or the Halloween and Friday the 13th ones - except for Jason X) so I decided to start with Elm street 1, and it was meh, funny, kinda lame. Probably would have scared me as a kid, but now its just laughable. So I watched the 2nd one last night and the entire time I'm thinking "this doesn't make any sense." The first thing I noticed was that Wes Craven didn't direct it. I immediately had the feeling of "this probably wasn't supposed to be made."
And sure enough, Craven didn't want sequels or a franchise. This 2nd one is ridiculous. In the NOES1, it's established that Freddy is some kind of demon/spirit thing that attacks/kills you in your dreams, and you die in the real world. NOES2 states that Freddy can possess an extremely unfortunate looking kid to kill other people, even though he only kills 2 people in the whole movie. It just made no sense and changed Freddy's modus operandi.
It was pretty terrible.
