Switch Discussion Thread
Re: Switch Discussion Thread
This kinda reminds me of when the 3DS came out. Deep down inside I wanted one, but most of the launch games were lame, so the high cost wasn't really worth it to me until about 2 years later.
Re: Switch Discussion Thread
So I've been a huge defender of the price and that people comparing the price with the big bulky PS4/XB1, which are now over 3 years old and aren't the size of a small tablet like the Switch is, so here's a table on the topic:

Own: Sega Mega Drive, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Playstation 1, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, PS Vita, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Nintendo Gamecube, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, Xbox 360

Re: Switch Discussion Thread
Once I saw Fire Emblem Warriors, I was psyched as fuck for the Switch XD
Hyrule Warriors was such insanely silly nonsense that I loved, I'm suuuuper excited for another game like that in a series I like even more! Short of that, a lot of the games look pretty cool! Not sure I'll get one RIGHT on launch, as that seems a bit excessive, but I'll definitely be picking one up eventually now.

Looks like it's on Amazon, but not yet available to pre-order.

And Zero that is WHY I find it the best, it's a handheld with a TV dock that shoots the visual quality up another notch. Huge bonus in my books, and the fact it does really look like they're done being a home console(alone) maker and into a microconsole/handheld maker I'm very happy for them. They couldn't compete in the nasty world big bang console games became, and in the microconsole and handheld world with their pedigree they can easily dominate and survive which is most important.
And no it's not 50 too much, that tables makes the case so I don't have to.
Amazon sold out almost instantly again. It got bot jacked just like the NES CE(Mini.) I didn't even bother. Walmart lasted a time, as did Target, Best Buy, Frys, and a few other lower tier spots. I'm not sure who had any left as of last night or even now.
I think because of their botching of the Amiibos repeatedly on waves(especially 1), the NES CE, and also nightmares of decades Wii past I think a lot of people are lining up to get the thing both as a protection/harassment block but also flippers looking to scam others too who can't wait (their fault feeding those crooks if that was their only original intent and not a mind changer after the fact.)
Thinking of it in these terms makes one have to wonder. It's $300, the device itself works on and off TV with no base unit(like WiiU) to worry about. it's sleek, smooth, not clunky. Plays real media, teeny easy to transport(and lose?) cards on a larger scale than the 3DS notably so. You actually for once do NOT have to buy another controller outside of a few exceptions as each joycon is a SNES controller with an analog stick included when you get down to it (so that big Street Fighter II and Bomberman release are ready to roll out of the box as are most others.) It'll be even easier for them to move it because many who think it out will realize they don't need to blow another $60-80 on another joycon/charger pack or the pro controller which means more pocket $ for another game or two. They've got the pickings we've seen so far for the year and that's more than enough to drive some crazy Christmas sales like Wii did (which WiiU didn't have in games to entice so it sat.)

The Wii was really the beginning of the end of Nintendo as a dedicated console manufacturer. The motion controls were innovative, but the core system hardware lagged behind the competition quite dramatically, something we saw repeated with the WiiU.
Nintendo has always been its best as a software designer, and handhelds are where they have dominated most strongly since first entering the market. Nintendo has always understood the compromises of handhelds better than those of the console, and that has allowed them to play to their strengths as a software house.

Managed to get a pre-order in at GameStop online. Will get it two days after launch, but that's a'ight. Got Zelda pre-ordered through Best Buy.
I'm a dang sucker, but I'm too old to dash around for this crap anymore. I did it for the Wii, but I'd rather not have to replicate that experience.

Elkinfencer10 managed to get one preordered on Amazon, but he was prepared. I wish I was enthusiastic and monetarily comfortable enough that I would be willing to pre-order something. But really, I am looking forward to seeing what Nintendo does with this system. There are lots of phone and tablet games I just refuse to buy because I don't like touch screen controls, and the Joy Cons look like an awesome solution.
