Sure, milk it for what it is worth, but I expect PJ to stay as close to the source material as possible, and a trilogy for the hobbit isn't that.

I'll/we'll see.
I can see making it into a duology, because there's a lot of battle scenes that are only a couple pages in the book that are much longer in the cinematic adaptation, as well as the general language being very quick compared to LotR. But I still haven't figured out how they're going to make it into a trilogy.

I know that they're mining the appendecies, and I expect them to elaborate on things that might've only gotten a nod or two in the book, but yeah. They're planning on putting out extended versions of all 3 of the Hobbit films. There'd better not be a single scene from the books left out if that's what they're doing.

'course it all really hinges on whether or not the movie is actually good, naturally.

meh.
"cruisin down the street in my six-fo". the intro was funny as hell. i actually like the same stiller and vaughn characters they do in every one of their movies. minus greenberg, just a weird ass movie. the british black guy was funny, and they even managed to make jonah hill funny at times. got a little too ridiculous at the end, but as a rental i was amused.

Heh, yeah, the intro was cool and I will admit I do like Stiller and Vaughan's characters. The 'british guy' is Richard Ayoade. He is most known for playing Maurice Moss in The IT Crowd, and he's actually a really funny dude and a great comedy writer/director. He's in The Mighty Boosh, as well as Garth Marenghi's Darkplace which are WILDLY funny and wicked-retarded tv series.

Ok, I just watched this (Dark knight Inappropriate soundtracks), which was amusing. Note the last Batman Movie I saw was in the 90s (because I'm not a huge fan) and I like Christopher Nolan.

But what the fucking fuck was that fuck? I'm sure as hell not planning on watching it now. That first 3 minute bit is just full of stupidity.
Knocking the side mirrors off every car he passes? Blowing up a bunch of innocent people's parked cars? The truck and trailer flip like they're one solid piece? Physics don't even remotely work like that.
My suspension of disbelief was clotheslined, jumped on, and thrown off a cliff. What the hell was that shit? :?

Just for comparison, the truck flip in Night Watch is going for the same ridiculous awesomeness, but it is a bit more believable since it is a solid truck, not 2 pieces with a nice flexible bit in the middle. Or maybe they just watched the crane chase in Terminator 3 too many times.

Watch the entire movie, and it will make a lot more sense why Batman isn't using common sense and will blow up whatever he has to do to get to the Joker.

The cables from the batpod wind thru the entire truck making it more of one piece? Okay, you got me on that one, but Batman not giving a shit about people's parked cars and side view mirrors does make sense.

THE HOBBIT

Make that THE NEW STAR TREK TRAILER and THE FIRST TEN MINUTES OF THE HOBBIT.

I was not a fan of JJ's Star Trek. I thought it read well on paper, but I couldn't get passed the visuals. It was like Star Trek on meth with constant lens flare. This is a minor complaint, but it didn't seem "nerdy" enough.

My butt will be in the theater for the sequel though. It looks phenomenal.

I fell asleep pretty early into The Hobbit. I woke up at around 2:20am to see a bunch of dwarfs walking on the side of a mountain (on the screen of course) and left for home. I just didn't have it in me.

How did I know this was going to happen.

Hopefully you get a chance to see it when you're more awake and alert and ready to sit through something like that.

Well, I can tell you it sticks with the regular LOTR format and the Shire is as bright and green as ever. And LOUD. How I slept for even ten minutes mystifies me. I'll check it out again and actually stay up on 12/11.

Last weekend we rewatched all of the Peter Jackson LOTR films, and the Rankin Bass Hobbit. It is a yearly thing, but it does take it out of you. And since it was my wifes friends, it had themed food, including a lembas bread using a mutual friends concept:
http://entropyhouse.com/penwiper/costumes/lembas.html

As for the Hobbit, well nothing will top Rankin Bass's version, but the concept that Peter Jackson is following is that the story will not only be what happens between the books, but also what happens between the gaps in the story that were filled in with the Appendices, Book of Lost Tales, and other short stories. So when Gandalf leaves the party and they run into the Trolls, what does Gandalf go do? (which is in one of the books but I cannot remember which one). Also after the Hobbit is over and Gandalf goes to find out the history of Sauron and the ring of power and gets into all sorts of trouble.

Honestly, I think it should be two movies, one for the Hobbit, one for the time gap. My biggest fear is that the story for the Hobbit will be cut short in each movie, ej the first one ends at Rivendell, the second one ends at Lake-Town, third one ends with Gandalf heading off to Biblos birthday party. But that does mean that come 2016, we can do a six movie marathon...

And falling asleep in the theater is the reason I dont do midnight showings anymore.
