Random Gaming Thoughts
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Not necessarily. You can still get lucky, go for bundles, check garage sales, etc. And as you work and age, you'll likely pull in more income over time, so prices won't seem so bad even though they're higher.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Well then I must just be very lucky, because most of my lots I've about pulled the trigger on just seem to have too many doubles(like multiples of the same 1st party but in varying conditions) or just way too many I'd never play. I think the last time I felt good about a buy was the time someone recommended that snes jap lot(and I think that may have been a ack recommendation)

N64 is all about the garage sale find I think. They're definitely still out there and if you find one, you're definitely getting at least a couple sought after titles in there. GoldenEye, Mario something or other, etc.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I put together a complete N64 cart set 5+ years ago. It cost me (ballpark) $1,500, or an average of $5/ea. I sold it as a set on ebay for $1,200 in one fell swoop.
A year later I decided i'd rather have the entire set CIB and once I acquired a few rares early on (Sculptors, Stunt Racer, Transformers, Tom and Jerry, Chameleon Twist 2...basically all the BB Exclusives) it made it relatively easy. It cost me (ballpark) $4,000 for the entire set. I paid market on a few harder ones (Daikatana, Super Bowling, Rat Attack, Bomberman 2nd Attack) but the other rares I got great deals on through random finds or lucky ebay auctions.
I sold off the rarest of the rares for $1,600 on NA (got $500 for Sculptors, which at the time was market for CIB) and the others like Transformers I took about 75% of market on as I was motivated. So, sold like 20 games that way. Then the rest I sold in a few bundles. I was as usual impatient, got $1,600 for one bundle and $800 for another, probably only 50% of current market on those. Somehow I still came out dead even as the market had just edged up so much in the 2 years I was collecting. So, sold for $4,000 - which was my buy in - even though 2.5 years ago it was probably worth closer to $6,500 for a full CIB set.
Now...i'm going for cart only...again. I'm halfway there and cataloguing every purchase. I've got 160 carts currently, about half the rares, and have spent $1,400 already (so i'm ballparking $2,700 for everything). That's close to double what it cost 5 years ago (but it's still under $10 a cart if you can bundle and avoid the "buy now" mentality).
CIB - a rough guess, just knowing what the ultra-rares are doing now - i'd say will easily by over 10K for a full set and just no longer worth it for this library. Most of the ultra-rares are purely shelf-candy, those games (Stunt Racer, Daikatana, Sculptor's Cut, Super Bowling, etc) are just not $200, $400, and $1,500 experiences by any stretch.

So you got a set of N64 carts, sold them, then a set of CIB N64, sold them, and are now getting a set of N64 carts again?

This is all coming from someone I thought only played Neo Geo / Saturn / arcades.
Next I'm going to hear about Luke's epic Vectrex collection or something.

That wouldn't shock me; I'm still not sure how Luke ended up on this site.

He's one of many high construct bots developed to trawl induced meta information for some clandestine data mining company. That's why he posts pictures of "himself" all the time, and talks about non-gaming related things all the time, and what food he likes all the time... all in order to convince us he's actually human. But not me. Oh no. I'm on to that Luke bot son.
