The PS4 thread
Re: The PS4 thread
Eh, I can say from what I've played of it it's not as bad of a game as some claim unless you literally have never played a game like it before and are horrible at getting tactics to go right when planning them out

Watch Dogs is a decent game but as far as quality goes it is just slightly better then Prototype in my opinion. I have enjoyed quite a few of Ubisofts open world experiences Driver SF, Far Cry 3, the Assassin's Creed Series, but this game just came across as mediocre in comparison
.
This game kind of feels like a mash up of Infamous, Assassin's Creed, and GTA. Aside from graphics though it doesn't really have much to lord over even the older entries in those series

It feels like it was filled with a bunch of nonsense side stuff. At least GTA 5 had side missions that were entertaining. It is just a plain uninspired game. If these other games did not exist then yes, it would be a great game. But they do exist and thus, this is a poor re-hash that does not live up to expectation. I mean come one, nice kidnappers who are kind to the victim??? They could have at least let me run a muck in the city without having my guy instantly die because a cop showed up!!
So yeah, if you have not played all these other games then this is probably gonna be a great game for you. I do highly suggest all of the other games listed before this one though.

The bloat in open world games in generally a turn off for me personally. I try to avoid them when I'm not enjoying the side quests but then I feel like I'm just rushing through the game and not getting my money's worth.wclem wrote:

Pretty much the only open world game I can say I enjoy these days are the Elder Scrolls games. I think what helps there is that all the random stuff you can do feels more natural to the world, rather than "collect all of these X things", "do all the tango missions", etc.CavZee wrote:The bloat in open world games in generally a turn off for me personally. Re: The PS4 thread
I'm not big on open world games in general, but I'll try one if there is something about it I find interesting. Sleeping Dogs was something I checked out because I liked the Hong Kong movie feel and the cool Batman style combat system. Assassin's Creek Black Flag I got into because I dug the pirate theme. The hacking stuff and stealth play in Watch Dogs sounds like stuff I can get into so I might check it out.
By contrast, I look at your average GTA game and find nothing appealing about them at all. I mean I liked GTA III and Vice City, but that's because the open world thing was still so fresh and new back then so it made those games compelling. Now that that style of game is more common, I'm left trying to find anything in the characters, story or gameplay mechanics to make me want to play a modern GTA game and I usually can't find anything.

Really my biggest problem with Watch dogs is the AI it's like they didn't put any thought into it at all
. One of the biggest areas this shows is how the AI reacts to water. Anytime you are in a police chase just hop in the water and swim away. Neither the helicopter or the vehicle units will doing anything more then gather at the shore and wait. Ubisoft was to lazy to put in any boat patrol units or modify the helicopters to where they would follow you in water
. Seeing as over 25% of the map is covered in water that's a pretty blaring fudge up on their part.

Re: The PS4 thread
That's fine by me. I'm not a fan of "ghosting". I like to play stealth games with the mindset of a predator or assassin, killing everyone in the area, but never actually being seen. The main reason to this day I haven't tried Dishonored is because I hear the game discourages you from killing. I like games like Tenchu or the Batman Arkham games where you are encouraged to kill, or in the case of the Batman games knock out your enemies and leave their bodies behind to sow fear in the enemies who find them. I like stealth games that make you feel like the predator rather than the prey. I might give Wolfenstein a shot. I watched the stealth vs mayhem trailer for this game and the whole first half of it was right up my alley. That's totally how I want to play it. Fun trailer too for anyone in this thread who hasn't seen it:MrPopo wrote:You can't use stealth everywhere, but the places you can't make sense from a story perspective. You can use stealth for the majority of the game, though in general it does involve a lot of stealth killing; the game isn't really set up for just sneaking around and not engaging anything.Gamerforlife wrote:Also, anyone know if you can stealth play all the way through Wolfenstein The New World Order? I heard stealth plays a big part in the game, but I'd like to know if it's always an option, as that would make me much more interested in playing it.

Dishonored discourages you from killing, but not from taking down everyone in your path. You get nonlethal takedowns and a ranged knockout option, as well as alternate ways of taking out key targets that don't kill them (though they might wish they were dead). And the discouragement is in the form of making the later game more difficult (and a slant on the tone of the story) through there being more enemies, which makes sense; the guards call in backup because someone is cutting a bloody swathe through the city. It definitely scratches the itch if you like the predator thing.

Re: The PS4 thread
And yet, when the mafia type groups are attacking me their helicopters will follow and attack me in water(darned if I can't make it under the bridge before that thing puts it's lasers on me...I really ought to restart and drive the boat over there so maybe I can drive away without getting shot...Fragems wrote:Really my biggest problem with Watch dogs is the AI it's like they didn't put any thought into it at all.
