Re: Shmup of the Month Club 2013 (Homura)
^Sounds like skate can hook you up if you have a PS2, but I don't disagree, i'd rather play the other games. It is what it is - hopefully those who voted Homura come and post...

skate323k137 - 180,647,000 - stage 3 (if we're doing max combo, 31)
IMO this is actually a pretty under-rated shmup, it's a lot of fun. Here's my crash course tutorial from what I remember.
Your sword can work kinda like the reflect in giga wing. When many bullets are close to you, hit the sword button, and you'll reflect them toward the enemy. It will re-charge in a short period of time and you can use it again. You get a lot of points for reflecting a large amount of bullets at once, and they're multiplied by something that's usually quite large if you get a large number of bullets. I haven't figured out that exact multiplier system.
Ths sword also is key for scoring in another way. If you are really close to an enemy (where the sword will hit them) when you hit the sword button it will trigger your lightning attack. This will effectively clear the screen while your character massacres a bunch of enemies. This will also give you a multiplier (based on how many enemies were on screen when you triggered the lightning attack) that slowly depletes over time, until you can get another lightning attack in. Max points = reflecting a ton of bullets while simultaneously close enough to an enemy to trigger the lightning attack.
At the end of the stage you get bonues for destruction rate, live/bomb stock, number of lightning attacks triggered, and max combo (the lightning attack which took out the most enemies)
Bomb is triggered pressing shot+sword. I don't map a button to shot+sword on PS2 (you have the option to) because if I remember right, you still have to let go of shot for it to work. I just let go of shot and then hit both buttons (shot/sword) simultaneously to trigger bomb. I use arcade sticks, you might want to have the 3rd button mapped if you're using a pad.
If you have freemcboot I can help get you going. If you need freemcboot, I can install it for you. If it means a few more people playing, I'm all for helping out.

Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

Damn, I thought people were joking about wanting to play Baryon and Blue Hawk instead of this. But you're serious?!
Homura is by far the better game!
Anyway, opening score...

DocHauser - 214,111,000 (combo 46) - Stage 2

Damn Doc, nice work. I pushed close to 300,000,000 last night, and then accidentally bumped the start button after I died (and continuing erases your rights to the scoreboard). I hope to break 300 mil soon.

Not scoring too highly in Stages 2 and 3 in this run, but making steady progress with survival...

I made it to stage 4 as well, still a good hundred mil short of your score though. I'll see if I can improve on that today.
