I'm really liking the sega drunk videos man. I'm an avid genesis fan and watching someone explore the library for the first time is exciting to me.

So many classic games for you to play and your reactions are so genuine. Keep up the good vids man
Thanks! That's the idea, the games that have me the most excited right now are Vectorman and Shining Force II (the absolute perfect introduction to strategy RPGs)

It looks "nice" but I found the game mechanics and controls to be far too awkward and janky, and it ultimately just felt like a chore to play. I prefer more "flowy" platformers like Mario and DKC, while Ristar felt like later-era Sonic (which I also dislike).
I can't really agree with it being style over substance. It sounds more like the substance simply wasn't your style.

Yes! Shining force is fantastic and Vectorman is visually impressive for the genesis.

I showed a friend of mine that game not long ago and the first thing he said was it reminded him of donkey kong country.

You should definitely play the shinobi games, especially Shinobi 3. That's one of the best action platformers there is.

I absolutely love Arcana. It's one that I think a lot of folks overlook due to its gameplay, but I love the mixture of WRPG and JRPG design and aesthetics. I recommend it to all folks I know who are into 16-bit RPGs.

EVO on the other hand...I like it, but that price tag has always been a huge barrier to entry. It's one that has pretty much stayed proportionally expensive since I got into SNES collecting. Sure, it's way more expensive now than it was, but when I got into the scene in 2007 or so, $50 was a lot for a SNES cart.

Oh, and you still have plenty of games to check out! Ardy Lightfoot, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters, Kendo Rage, Disney's Bonkers, Power Instinct, 7th Saga, Plok, Cacoma Knight in Bizyland, Soldiers of Fortune, Bust-A-Move, Goof Troop, Ignition Factor, The Peace Keepers, Marvel Superheroes in War of the Gems, Liberty or Death, College Slam, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure, SOS, The Twisted Tales of Spike McFang, Wild Guns...

...That, or I have really odd taste in games. That could also most certainly be a factor.

Good vids. I dig both games.

I don't actually own E.V.O. though - for the obvious reasons. Hell, I couldn't even find the game back in the 1990s and it's one of the first things I played when I discovered the wonders of Snes9x.

Didja know it's something of an enhanced port of an old PC-98 game?

Wonder Project J, by the same developer, is also pretty fun.

One of my favorite SNES games. Luckily, I got a copy brand new back when the SNES was relevant. I don't have the instructions, but I still have the box. One of the few SNES boxes I have.

The music is what really drew me into this game. There's just something so mysterious about it. I love it. It's very fitting for the game. I don't much like games where you have to grind so much, but never really bothered me so much with EVO. Probably because of the music.

Also, the plot is evolution! I love seeing the world map change with every chapter, from Pangaea into today's continents. Also, the sort of hidden subplot (SPOILER)...
Aliens messing with the evolution of the planet. They were from Mars, IIRC. Also, IIRC, this subplot was kinda hidden and could easily be missed. It's hinted at in the main plot, from Gaia as well as the whispers you hear now and again. There's a secret area, I think in the dinosaur era, that you can only access if you can fly. You fly up into the alien spacecraft and more of the plot is revealed. Did you miss this when you played through?
It's a shame that the price is so high on this game. I think any SNES enthusiast should give it a go, but I'm sure the high price tag is keeping many away. It's a very unique game, which usually means it's not as good as beloved mainstream games, but this is how EVO is different. It's very unique, but not so far removed from the norm. It's a pretty straight forward play through.

Bosses are hard, yes, but did you not utilize the trick? Any time you evolve, in any way, your max HP is restored. So for most creatures, you can just constantly add/remove a horn before you die and restore all your health. Just max sure you have enough EVO points before going into battle. I've even had a few times where my HP was 0, but I pressed the button quick enough where I was able to evolve and restore my HP.

That's really interesting, Bone. I kinda remember hearing that before.

It was never a popular game, not until the retro gaming craze happened. I think I remember buying my copy in a (now closed) Electronics Boutique. You wouldn't find a copy in Wal Mart or K-Mart. Hell, I don't even recall ever seeing it in Blockbuster. I only knew of the game because I borrowed it from a cousin.

E.V.O. is one of those games I really wanted to dig, and that I appreciate from an objective standpoint, but I could never get into when trying to play it myself.
