I really have to applaud the continued support to constantly improve this thing. Impressive.

If you know my name from over at Digital Press or at one point the declining NA I've got an active thread going over at DP where I'm posting updates on the system that aren't the public stuff as I have the ok to do so.
I never knew you were here on Racketboy. I've been following you on the NA and DP forums for the past month, bringing all the information here to this thread. Thanks for all your hard work in getting a lot of these features in.

I downloaded the 1.41 build with the EEPROM saves. So far, so good. That's been my only real issue with the unit so far. 17 of my GBA carts have EEPROM saves and I really wanted that feature in. I'm not so sure about trying the new faster power-on firmware build yet, but you said on DP it works as promised.

I've only got 2 games that aren't recognized on my Retron 5 so far, both for the GBA -- Ultimate Card Games and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo. They are both "Unknown Cartridge", but are playable anyway. I cleaned out all the GBA carts I have and they both run fine on my GBA SP. Any way to pass that along to the Retron Tech?

Yes I'll message him right now so he sees it. It's 8pm there so if he's not still at work he'll catch it at home on the account. My Sim City 2000 game on GBA does the same with unknown but works, saves and all.

Also here's a preview of the 1.5 build to go live shortly.

I can't promise I'll keep up on this but I will as I mostly use DP, NA has jumped sanity and I'm done there. Had I not been shut out of there on a lie to protect a homebrew developer I wasn't posting much lately there anyway, fed up with rabid collector garbage telling people what they can do with their own property and other harassing junk. I've read here awhile but only after leaving that hole signed up here.

I try not to badmouth other forums but I'll just say I didn't last a second in that place.

Thanks for your work on making the Retron 5 experience better. I'm in no hurry to update from the current build so I'll wait until it officially goes live.

Overall 1.4 is fine enough if you're cool waiting, you won't suffer much for it other than GBa saves of various types and a few random games.

I'm not much for it either noting other places, but I'd believe it in your words. It used to be sensible but when you cross the line of guarding protected (donor/game making) people over others, and then telling people what they should do with their game or not because it can harm the value of the copy you own, you're crossing into socialism communal property mixed with gestapo tactics and it'll sour you fast.

Like I said I'll try and keep an eye on this thread and I do read others, just haven't found much of a reason to respond a lot so far yet. :)

Same here.

Every couple of months I'll browse some threads there and it only takes about 30 seconds until I'm reminded why I'm not a member.

Anyway, at this rate it sounds like the Retron 5 will be completely functional with no issues by the time I get mine.

Thanks to Tanooki's communication with Retron Tech, I think so too. A lot of what has been implemented in these firmware updates came from him and others who passed their information and experiences to him.

Welcome to RB by the way. You'll find us a lot more laid back

That's exactly what I need, laid back and lower stress. I was a collector a decade ago until I was by not my own choice cleaned out mostly (not robbed) and have since clawed back up to a few hundred hand picked games to enjoy, but all the hub bub and junk I never got into doing the games much or enjoying things. In the last week I've actually been putting time on stuff and I remembered something, it's fun.

You're welcome for the thanks. I'm sure someone else at some level would have coordinated things, but I put my money into this and $140 isn't chump change in the last year so I want it right. I dedicated to using it by putting up my real systems (heavily modded top loader and a 1chip dk super set snes) so there's no distractions. I'm liking it, loving it more with the goodies in the pipe from 1.4 and especially the 1.5 preview + the fast boot.

Is the fast boot going to be part of the new 1.5 or is that in the next version?

I doubt it.

The R5 has two different files. Application firmware (IE: the OS) and then the system firmware (consoles+gameboy.) 1.5 is for the console/hh side of things. Fastboot is for the system itself, so it would be another install on the side and it's in testing so I imagine whenever they're confident with doing so they'll release it.
