What single player FPS campaign are you playing?

If only I could get the damn third game working well on my PC.Ack wrote:STALKER is more open-ended, but the first is loaded with technical issues. I finished Metro and got the bad ending of course. I remembered where I quit before, trying to turn on the power at d6 where you have to fight through the weird orb things. I died at least 20 times there. I wanted to quit then but managed to power through it. It's a great game and I can see why it got so much praise.

Also can't disagree with Stark enough there. Stalker is what ruined Metro for me, I tried playing Metro 3 times and could not get into it at all. Stalker wasn't love at first sight either, but once it finally pulled me in... damn, one of the best FPS's I've played for sure. The clunky early combat evolves into some of the best gunplay mechanics / combat I've ever felt in an FPS, and yeah it was just amazing. The underground segments were so tense it was crazy. Half the time nothing even happened, but the atmosphere drowned you.

Started playing Doom 3: BFG, nothing special from it really over the vanilla version other than the new expansion pack.
I never finished Doom 3 when it came out, like I did so often when I was younger I got sidetracked and started something else, enjoying it more than I thought I would.

So I am going to take Dave's post to mean I should wait until he puts his copy up in his sale thread right guys?dsheinem wrote:Long answer: noooooooooooooooooMrPopo wrote:Short answer, yes.flex wood wrote:So I'm guessing I should keep an eye out for last light now. Nah. I liked both games a good bit. The sequel is very good and more polished, but I liked the grittier "rough around the edges" feel of the gameplay in the first one as I felt it fit the world better. I also found the story a little more compelling, and the original gets big points for originality.flex wood wrote: So I am going to take Dave's post to mean I should wait until he puts his copy up in his sale thread right guys?
Really both games are pretty great, so just play them both (in order). Metro 2033 is regularly less than $5 on Steam.

Well, the contrast isn't that stark but Stalker is the one that came first, has a much better cost to game length ratio, is more open ended, has more depth and is more intense/athmospheric.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

Resistance 3 is miles better than the first one, but its engine is definitely not as advanced as I might have wanted. For example when you're hunted by the dropship simply hiding in a wooden shack does the trick as it's impervious to its attacks. Once I'm done with R3 I'm going to watch some of R2 on Youtube to decide if it's worth it, but from some comments online it seems to lack the variety of its sequel.

I completed Rainbow Six Lockdown. It was a lot less "tactical" than Rainbow Six 3 was, and more of a straightforward FPS with its missions, but the team aspect was still there and you were still able to issue orders. I liked it more if only for the fact that it flowed better and the graphics were much brighter and nicer, you didn't need your night vision on for 99% of the game. There were also sections where you could control the sniper of the team to cover the team through wide open areas. The team also had specialists who could disarm bombs, disable security cameras and hack into computer terminals. It was a lot of fun, and the single player campaign had 16 missions, so the length was very nice too.
