What was the last movie you've seen?

Yeah, it was. Gotta give it to Ben as a director, though he also had a golden script that would be hard to fuck up.Luke wrote:It's surprisingly good isn't it?dsheinem wrote:Just saw Argo. What a damn fine film.
It might be too soon, but I think I liked the film better than The Master, even if the directing and acting was better in the latter.

I went out and bought dark shadows since i didn't get a chance to see it in theaters. I thought it was a nice lighter twist on the original series. Foxhound seemed to enjoy it as well.

Wow, now that is high praise. I was under the impression that we wouldn't see anything topping The Master this year.dsheinem wrote:Yeah, it was. I was going to ask you just that. Both movies are gripping to say the least, but THE MASTER isn't as consistent as ARGO. It's a really tough call but the performances in THE MASTER border on being hauntingly unforgettable.dsheinem wrote:

Both are great movies, both aren't perfect, but damn if they don't excel at what they aim to achieve.

the film snob side of me enjoys The Master, the fun movie guy side of me enjoys Argo. I'd recommend the former to a select few people, the latter to almost anyone I know.Luke wrote:I was going to ask you just that. I thought the comparison to Apollo 13 made a few days ago was apropos.

Don't forget about LINCOLN.Ack wrote: Wow, now that is high praise. I was under the impression that we wouldn't see anything topping The Master this year.
And any critic with a brain would put THE RAID: REDEMPTION near the top of their list. Phenomenal movie.

Exactly why I loved ROSEMARY'S BABY. You know what is going to happen in the end, but you still feel a sense of tension that is palpable.dsheinem wrote: I thought the comparison to Apollo 13 made a few days ago was apropos.

I am intrigued by this one. I am sure Lewis will be Oscar-bait great, but I feel Spielberg is a bit predictable at this point. He hasn't impressed me as a compelling director since Munich (and before that A.I.), so while I am sure it will be well made, I am hopeful it also breaks with his typical signature style.Luke wrote:Don't forget about LINCOLN.Ack wrote: Wow, now that is high praise. The Three Stooges 2012.
Eh. It had a couple of laugh out loud parts, I'll admit. But for the most part it was kinda painful. WAY too much mugging for the camera, too much of Curly going 'woop woop', and just WAY too damn much of the 3 of them saying "nnnggahhhH!!"
Way overdone.
Though I think it might be one of Larry David's best performances, lol.
