My parents let me drink some of their beer and wine if I wanted when I was underaged, and as I got older it was encouraged. I hated the taste when I was a kid and any mystery alcohol had for my friends, was not there for me. When other people thought they were being "oh so bad" for drinking, I just thought they were being stupid. When I was eventually legal age, I still didn't care about alcohol. I began to drink simply because every goddamn social function has alcohol, and I just got tired of people acting like I was some sort of freak for not having booze in my hand. I never drank to excess. In fact, I've never been any more drunk than a light buzz. I've never used an illicit drug, including pot. Not once. In about 2006/2007 I gave up drinking entirely out of a commitment to a close friend. They had difficulty with alcohol and we made a pact that I would give it up if they would. This was obviously easier for me, but that friend also hasn't had a drink since.
My story is just an anecdote, and I don't have a history of alcoholism in my family so it is highly unlikely that I have any genetic vulnerability to becoming alcoholic, so obviously what's true for me doesn't apply to everyone, but I certainly would not say that my parents are the worst kind of parents for saying "My kids are going to drink anyway, so I'd rather have them drink at home where it is safe."

I'm 23 (well, in a couple of weeks) and I still don't drink. Meh.

Also maybe if it was a "Hey what's up" then reply with your girlfriend right there where she can see it "Hey, just hanging out with my GF doing *whatever*, how have you been?"

You're probably better off not doing it unless only in moderation..AppleQueso wrote:I'm 23 (well, in a couple of weeks) and I still don't drink. Meh.

My mom speaks of rumors about there being alcoholism down our genetics somewhere. I can honestly say I love getting drunk ... but it's usually only a few times a year thesedays so I don't think that's a problem at all. With a big group of good friends, it's nice to loosen up sometimes. I honestly wish I did have more drinking buddies though, my circle of friends from high school / early college went the other route and were getting high off all kinds of things for a few years there. Never got into that.
Other than that I like to have the occasional cold one throughout the week if I'm stocked.
Think I was 19 when I first got drunk, had a shot or two of saki at ... my first job, Jiffy Lube. The GM was even there and they all just laughed about it and told me to hang out downstairs for a bit since I was feeling kind of funny.
From there I hit up the bro parties for awhile and those were some good times, not gonna lie haha.

I've been saying for a couple of years that Floyd Mayweather was the best pound for pound boxer and tonight with Manny getting knocked out, I think my opinion is proven as fact.. Marquez was decimated by Floyd.. Now I know he is not a likeable guy at all and I personally think he is a total prick, but the guy is the best boxer in the word period.. Michigan's finest too..

Hobie,
Thankfully everything blew over, it just took an hour or so of explaining to clear things up. I will definitely keep your advice in mind for the next time it happens though. It will save a lot of time and trouble.

Haha nah - it's a "real" school, one of the seven Maine state universities.Luke wrote:University of Phoenix?BoneSnapDeez wrote:Just found out that my university has a 94% acceptance rate.
The number is a bit misleading, as the vast majority of students are "non-traditional" (older) and are going for second degrees or post BA/BS certifications. Most students also seem to take several classes before formally applying.
