My friend's dad took this stance, except it was fucking meth instead of alcohol.

I'm not saying parents encourage drug use, but some obviously don't discourage it which is disappointing.

Not in my state.
Luke wrote:2) They're setting a bad example
If they're drinking responsibly, they're setting a good example.
Luke wrote:3) They're trying to be "cool" and not being parents
My parents are not cool people. Both of their sets of parents let them drink before they were 21 (my dad was drinking by 13), and they just have the same view. As long as I'm not getting drunk, what does it matter that it's alcohol?
Luke wrote:4) Giving people underage alcohol are losing control of their children
If your kid is sneaking out and buying alcohol with a fake ID, that's when you've lost control.
Luke wrote:5) The younger you start drinking, the more likely you'll have alcohol health related issues
If you're referring to alcoholism, that only crops up if you drink to get drunk. You're not going to have health issues if you only have one.

It works out pretty well, actually. Most of the problem drinkers/drivers are not getting the alcohol through their parents, and it gives the parents more control.

Plus if you are going to drink underage don't be a sissy. Man up, make a fake id, sneak out of your late at night and see if you can pass for 21. Earn it.
My legal guardian allowed me to drink, and I have zero alcohol health related issues, I almost never get drunk, she was not trying to be cool, and never lost control of me. We're still close, and I'm rather successful so far all things considered.

Perhaps I'm an anomaly, but from my experience your arguments just don't hold up. By the way, only in America (well, and a couple other places like Indonesia and Kazakhstan) is the drinking age 21. No other western countries is it 21.

No offense, but this shows exactly how little you know about alcoholism.

And I seriously doubt you are only having a beer or a glass of wine.

Plus if it is legal to supply alcohol to a minor in MO, that's one of the dumbest laws in the US.

But no biggie. My kids can watch me drink responsibly until they are old and wise enough to understand the consequences of drinking.

Fine by me as I haven't read a post from you in months that isn't simply contradicting someone else. Your sig should be "Nuh-uh!".

I am only having one. I have no desire to ever be drunk.

Parents shouldn't let their kids jump sharks until they are at least 16. The kids, not the sharks.
