Xbox One
Re: Xbox One
Sony is marketing this next gen console so well. Microsoft needs to do better quick, or it's going to be dead in the water.

The clerk explained the differences between the PS4 and xboxone and encouraged the person NOT to preorder the XboxOne. How weird is that for a retail chain have someone say, "Don't buy that..buy this instead."
If Microsoft is upsetting gamers, and the people who sell the systems tend to be gamers or have knowledge of the gaming industry and those same people are in turn upset, wouldn't that affect sales?
I think most of the buyers are oblivious to ramifications of the used game and online authentication requirements. I got in a discussion with another person standing in line at gamestop yesterday. He had a cardboard box with a 360 console and a pile of games boasting about preordering the Xbox One. Somehow he believed every Xbox One game he will purchase can be sold as used since "Xbox will always support a one time used game authentication." Yeah right.

The CoD and Halo Xbox crowd will continue to buy it. People stay with what they know, most people will accept what they are told they can have.

I swear people get dumber everyday. Only us gamers know better not to buy it, the average consumer may not know this at all. And like you said, only Halo and CoD people will buy it. To them I say, have fun with your brick and library of paperweights when Microsoft shuts down those servers when and if they move to the next console if they ever make it that far. May I remind you of a little title called Chromehounds? It is now a paperweight much like the xbox one games after the servers are down.

True, but the Xbox One is going to be $500, while the PS4 will be $400 and the Wii U is $350. A lot of average consumers will pick the first two just because of the lower prices. That's part of why the Wii sold so well last gen, and why the PS3 didn't take off until '09.

I'm not so sure people are giving the average consumer enough credit. Mainstream sites aren't being very flattering to the Xbox One's policy decisions. Add to that the price tag and the fact that Sony's marketing (if they're smart) is likely to highlight Microsoft's cons.
Sony has a big opportunity to win some converts and if it wins enough of the hardcore gamers others will follow.

I was thinking the same thing. It's not so much that the average consumer is stupid as much as they are simply not well informed. Sony can scoop up the FPS and sports market easily if they highlight the used game thing well enough, which would be huge. Then again, publishers of said games will likely be enforcing their own DRM anyway.

If the DRM is more low-key than Xbox One, then it's not going to be that bad.
Like having to pay €10 to enable online play or something...
Still sucks, but not to the point where one would boycot a console...

Re: Xbox One
I'm cool with publishers requiring a key code for online play if your using their servers. Seems fair to me.

Re: Xbox One
I think people are exageratting the Xbox thing . I think it will continue to sell well. I know the system has to connect to the internet once every 24 hours but honestly, how many people take their consoles to the outdoors? Even then you can probably use tether with your mobile phones.
I am not too old but I have seen this many time already , once something is new everyone complains and blow it out of proportion. Who remembers PS3 being complained about with its high price tag because they wanted to force Bluray down our throats , lack of launch games, and worse of all the fact that ps3 was supposed to produce higher quality graphics because of its core processors or something like that but comparisons for the next 3 years or so showed that 360 always had the better graphics(slightly) for mutliplatforms. It happened with the iPad when everyone was making fun of it being just a big phone and a female pads, now it might be the hottest product in the market.
If people will refuse to by Xbox1 because of the 24hr thing and fee charge for sharing games , I bet Microsoft already has this 300kb update that you can downloaded and the issue will be over in a seconds.
The question remains, what reasons will make you pick one over the other? Even with the ps3/360 there was some differences with stuff like :
1) 1 has bluray the other not
2)360 has better more "mature" online multiplayer
3) ps3 entry console was $500 compared to $300 360 core.
***********
What is with the ugly console designs. Its like the are doing it on purpose, I cant believe they pay for things like this. The ps4 is just a parallelogram and X1 is just a black box. Isn't product design one of the more important aspect of market a product?
I remember we had a thread discussing ugly console designs long time ago.
