Yeah, that was a major problem I had. The rest of the game's great.MrPopo wrote:The platforming sections in Dark Forces can fuck off.
What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
The PS2 has a very wide range of FPS -- all the games I've been doing on the Gamecube have PS2 equivalents. I believe there are even some exclusives there.

Not to mention PS2 has (the vastly superior) Half-Life. Though I have no idea how that port stacks up.
But there's also Time Splitters, Black, Deus Ex, Tribes, UT, Medal of Honor(s), Project Snowblind, Red Faction, XIII, etc. There were a lot of FPS games on PS2. Arguably better ones than are out now.

To be quite honest, it doesn't. It's just barely competent for a first wave FPS, but it's the first "real" fps so I find that it's worth playing anyway, and the first 3D game ever to have textured "3D" walls, if I'm not mistaken. The game is mazelike and used a lot of "secret" walls that you had to shoot to progress. It's still pretty fun, and I played through the entire series. Catacomb Abyss is the series high point, the next two games can get tedious and don't offer much anything new.MrPopo wrote:How does it compare to Wolfenstein 3D? Dark Forces and Jedi Knight are so awesome.
Yeah the PS2 had tons of good FPS's, although I eventually bought most of them again on the PC years later and I can never go back now. Especially to the Deus Ex port, lol.

For an early FPS effort, I thought Catacombs was pretty fun. Very secret wall heavy, yes, but it was great.Retronomy wrote:To be quite honest, it doesn't. So I just got another 360 and have been playing metro 2033, it's a good game don't get me wrong here folks, but the whole time I'm wishing I had a PC so I could play stalker.
I just got to the part where you stow away on the bottom of a commie rail cart and get dropped into the front lines of a fight between the reds and the nazis. Pretty damn hard for me to get through. Stealth doesn't seem to be working all that well and guns blazing seems futile. I've gotten through it before but I just remember how.

Metro is in every way the better of STALKER (especially aurally and visually), so you should wish you had a PC so you can play Metro 2033 looking even better!flex wood wrote:So I just got another 360 and have been playing metro 2033, it's a good game don't get me wrong here folks, but the whole time I'm wishing I had a PC so I could play stalker.

Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
from what I watched of stalker it seemed like it has more depth and was a bit more open so that's why I thought it seemed better.
I finished Metro and got the bad ending of course. I remembered where I quit before, trying to turn on the power at d6 where you have to fight through the weird orb things. I died at least 20 times there. I wanted to quit then but managed to power through it. It's a great game and I can see why it got so much praise.
So I'm guessing I should keep an eye out for last light now. I've already had one of the main things spoiled for me in the game watched roommate play it. Is last light better then 2033?

STALKER is more open-ended, but the first is loaded with technical issues. However, the third is extremely open and alongside Far Cry 2 has set a personal standard for the possibilities of an open world in an FPS.flex wood wrote:from what I watched of stalker it seemed like it has more depth and was a bit more open so that's why I thought it seemed better.
