xan_racketBOY_fan -

LOL, yeah. Usually I don`t find this many bargains but my local shop has just been shovelling great stuff into their junk bins almost everyday this month. The place is on my way home so the temptation to stop there everyday is just too great to resist!

flojocarbon - that is funny that you played it for as long as the batteries lasted! I had a handheld (generic brand one) that I did the same with! Its a great game, I`ve been playing it for hours. WHo knows, perhaps the one I purchased is your long-lost childhood possession? :D

Game Gear AC Adapter = free!

Got it from my brother. He thought it was a model 1 Genesis adapter...?

Also got Wizardry VII for $2 at Goodwill, but I haven't gotten it to run yet.

Atari 2600 Berzerk and Space Invaders - $1.50 Each
Bought at a local Thrift Store. Okay so these are ancient games, but for such an old console, still a kick to play. Space Invaders is the first Arcade to Console translation and Berzerk gains the notoriety as the first Arcade where a game player died at the controls. I have the 5200 versions as well as Mame and Console Arcade Compilations. The 2600 versions offer unique features that are not found on any other release. Now to find 2600 Jr Pacman. :D

Maybe due to memory limitations, the individual rooms are smaller with less corridors. This makes for less places to hide but does allow a quicker exit when Otto arrives.

Despite such atrocities as the Atari 2600 version of Pac-Man, Atari managed to turn out a fantastic version of Stern’s hit arcade game. Almost flicker-free, and lacking only the arcade game’s primitive speech synthesis (not that much of a loss, truth be told), Atari’s Berzerk cartridge was a very good reason to own the 2600.
Wiki wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berzerk#Be ... ar_culture

Berzerk was the first video game known to have been involved in the death of a player. In January 1981, 19-year-old Jeff Dailey died of a heart attack soon after posting a score of 16,660 on Berzerk. In October of the following year, Peter Burkowski made the Berzerk top-ten list twice in fifteen minutes, just a few seconds before also dying of a heart attack at the age of 18.

There are invisible invader levels, the enemy appear when hit, sliding barriers and bullets. The 2600 has a simultaneous Two Player mode, a feature that was not utilized until later Atari 7800 Arcade conversions.

The smartest thing Atari ever did was to look outside their own stable, licensing their first ever third-party arcade title for a little machine called the Atari 2600.
2600 Stargate

Take the game Defender and throw in a Stargate to jump to another area, usually where an enemy is capturing one of your humans. A shame there is no 5200 version, but an amazing work of coding done for the 2600. I was lucky to get the Stargate Label which was later renamed to Defender II.

Nice find. Pretty good prices. Carts appear to be in good shape.

Look out for Evil Otto, though.

I love Berserk. Evidently the 2600 version can be hacked for speech like it's 5200 brother. Just read that on the wiki link. Personally, the Vectrex version is my favorite.

Saw that, a nice touch by Atari Age. The 2600 version is nice with the smaller rooms, and can be played with a Genesis Controller. I also like the 5200 version, its just like the Arcade with identical rooms and includes the Robot Voices.

I know the Genesis Controller had issues with the C64, but does anyone know if it will work with the 5200 Masterplay 2600 controller adapter? I would hate to fry my rare 4 port 5200 or Masterplay Interface.
http://www.atarihq.com/museum/5200/mstrplay.html

Electra Concepts was a godsend to many 5200 players who yearned for an alternative to the standard 5200 controller. Although Wico, GIM Electronics and Coin Controls had 5200 joysticks already on the market, Electra bet that many gamers would prefer to play their games with a trusty 2600-compatible joystick. The Masterplay Interface is basically an adapter that lets you play your 5200 games with any 9-pin controller. Since 2600 sticks are digital for the most part, however, games designed for analog control will not work with the Masterplay. Nevertheless, almost everyone will agree that games like Ms. Pac-Man, Miner 2049er and Vanguard play far better with a self-centering 2600 stick than with Atari's 5200 controller.

If there is a drawback (and it's not the fault of Electra Concepts), it's the fact that the Masterplay Interface is incredibly difficult to find. This is one case, however, where the usefulness of an item actually exceeds its rarity.
