I enjoyed it.
I suppose I'm among the target audience for Looper but going to the movies just isn't what it used to be for me.. It's almost akin to the game arcades; our homes are now equipped with affordable technology that replicates the experience to a certain degree.

Enemy Mine

A fairly watchable 80s flick that puts a positive spin on dealing with xenophobia towards a hostile alien race (for once). Good thing we hadn't descended from reptiles

Surviving Progress

A "fresh" documentary that attempts to throw up some questions about the plague that is perceived progress and unattainable economical growth, but the topic is too complicated to cover in a single programme and it stumbles accordingly. It is becoming more evident that unless the entire human race agrees to a mutual siesta and consciously slows down this raging madness something catastrophic is going to happen. How long can it be denied that humans have become their own worst parasite?

But they're all completely different characters and strange in their own completely different ways. Which just goes to prove how versatile he is to play such extremes.
I'll stick by my claim that versatility is not Depp's strength and by my support that the Academy agrees with me.

He is the best example I can think of of an actor that people who have little grasp on acting think is a good actor...

I hear ya. In Austin we have Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas. They offer food and beer with less children in movies so we usually go there for movies. They used to not allow anyone under 21 w/out a guardian, and no one under 6 period - but they bent over and spread their cheeks to the ridiculous masses so they dont enforce it much anymore, and they now have 'movie theater food' prices, which is bullshit. (seriously, $4 for a coke, and $12 for a tiny burger.)

Sorry for the rant.

Bascially what I was trying to say was that the Alamo cinemas make moviegoing fun again. There's funny pre-show entertainment that isn't a commercial for the upcoming Rizzoli and Isles season or whatever. It's a fairly decent theater.

I'll jump on the ENEMY MINE bandwagon as well. It looks a bit dated these days, but the message still hits home.

Looking forward to tonight as my Parents are visiting. Going to show them Marve's The Avengers to get their opinion on it. If you think I'm tough on inconsistencies in a movie, oh boy, you have no idea. "A Cessna 152 couldn't fly at that altitude", "This movie is set in the fifties yet that's a '68 Oldsmobile", "Did you see that? The microwave said it was 5:06, but it looks pitch black out the windows. Rewind it."

The funny thing is my Mother adores Steven Seagal movies, my Father hates them. There has to be some equilibrium of action, a solid story, and a touch of nudity (or Clint Eastwood).

They're quirky with their sense in movies. How my Father loves both LAST MAN STANDING and MOULIN ROUGE makes my head spin.

Depp haters will not be happy. In THE LONE RANGER Depp gets top billing, and in promo posters Depp is featured way more frequently than Hammer. I think this will be another "Depp isn't the main character but he is" movies.

And suddenly the way you approach enemies makes so much more sense.
