I just checked my copy of MPT, and for what it's worth, I do not have any sort of 'R' sticker on here anywhere, but I also don't have a Club Nintendo code included. My disc and manual are both also in immaculate condition.

With the CN code, that could just be an unscrupulous GS worker or customer taking them though.

The wiki quote is kind of a mish-mash of info. It refers to a Nintendo Life post that combines the statement from the Kotaku article I linked above, and an earlier Kotaku post with user comments that the suddenly-available copies of Xenoblade felt new, had unused codes, etc.

Gamestop didn't say the copies were pre-owned, they just said they got a supply of them. They also didn't make claims regarding codes and whatnot.

'course, they also didn't just come out and say they were reprints either, at least not at the time. If you don't dismiss the Yahoo article, then they did confirm it, just months after the fuss was being made.

I can only speak to the 2 copies I had. I just checked my personal copy and there isn't a sticker of any kind.

The other copy I sold and I specifically recall how nice it was when he handed me the copies from the cabinet - there were ZERO stickers on them - nada / nil / nothing. I received 2 copies from the cabinet w/no identifying marks - as he was checking me out another guy took the copy I had brought to the counter back out to the floor. I can only assume every copy in that cabinet is sticker free.

We are a retro video game site - do none of us work for Gamestop and can speak to this? Have you all been sworn to silence! Soylent Green!1!!1!

My two did not have the sticker either, both bought as used CIB Tin case before the coverup. Well, one was bought at Game Crazy at a crazy cheap used price. As for the other Tin Gamestop copy, I actually kept the Gamestop sticker on it. I normally rip and clean stickers immediately after a Finds Photo Shoot, but kept due to the history controversy and a record of what I paid back used back in 2011. Be interesting to see what Metroid Trilogy Tin and Plastic Cases will be worth in ten years.

As far as getting official word from Gamestop, it would have to be not at store or regional level, but Corporate. Local stores are on the same Rumor Control as us even as far as what their Managers are allowed to leak out to them.

I have purchased many ps3 games from gamestop and they have that R sticker

So they do exist.

I have a theory on why not all wii R stickers have not been printed.

At gamestop and many other businesses, there are automatic sticker/label makers. I have some at my job and they print out sticker barcodes. Before the sticker gets printed. You have to tell the machine how to print it out. An interface.

At my job there's various sized stickers. some have prices and some don't. Some are special for clearance and some are for identification.

Its possible that at the refurbish center at gamestop, nobody put in the correct setting on their printer and the labels came out normal. No R on them. But the barcode still classifies them as R.

They could have changed it, but they probably had a tight schedule, and they shipped them out anyways as-is.

So its a possibility that some areas got the wrongly labeled R sticker, and after the company corrected the mistake; sent out the rest of the refurb games with the correct sticker.

But it doesnt matter since we still paid $50+ for them.

And we probably wont know the ratio since we pull off the sticker anyways.

I spoke to the manager of my local gamestop. He confirms in no uncertain terms that Metroid Prime Trilogy and Xenoblade are officially licensed reprints.

If my anecdote isn't good enough for you, a cursory google search turns this up:

I went to gamestop today and I found another copy of Metroid prime collection.

It also looks like Gamestop went again with another slight sticker change.

Now the wording PRE OWNED is a thicker font. Its on this and a few other games that came in.

Now, I'm not sure if they came this way when the opened up their cardboard boxes with arrived merchandise pre-labeled or their printer in store had an update.

There are No R's on these.

The store I went to had two copies of Trilogy. They were both Plastic Eco boxes.

Do you guys know how to date check gamestop stickers? Well, If you look above the red stripe on the right hand side you can see the date the sticker was printed.

There are two dates on Trilogy. The one on the spine is an old sticker dated 9/28/13 and the one on the top corner has 08/05/14.

Gamestop employees rarely remove old stickers. They just place an new one on top. So it may have been months before this game got shipped out to the store. Or maybe transferred between stores. Gamestops are known for doing this.

So I'm starting to think that, yeah they are still reprinting games.

I also took a picture of the barcode on the game. If somebody has the tin version maybe they should check barcodes?

What about the booklets? Same or less quality?

Image

Do they match or are they just specific for gamestop?

have a look and see the madness that is gamestop! And me for being so crazy into details.

I own the tin version. My barcode reads:
45496 90167 00000

The booklet is very thick, looks the same. But mine also includes a little foldout booklet that covers the history of the prime trilogy along with some concept art.

Does the disc look fresh? Any buff marks from a disc resurfacer (may not be a word)? If it looks like a brand new game through and through, by my logic and experience, it is.

Edit: I just realized you were at a store. Don't know if you purchased it.
