Picks from the Swap Meet

Image

Another round of the good stuff, man oh man I love the Swap Meet! Some sellers have rows and rows of tables. So many hidden treasures and also the haggling to liven up the day.

I saw a lady trying to buy an old metal container there:
Buyer: "How much for this container?"
Seller: "Five Bucks."
Buyer: "How about three?"
Seller: "Make it Four."
Buyer: "I only have Three."
Seller: "Lady, I know you have more then three dollars on you."
CRTGAMER:" "I'm getting Popcorn."
Buyer shows open purse: "See, three dollars and one penny is all I have."
The Container got sold for $3.01, the seller claimed victory!

Okay here are some of my Picks. :D

PS2 Resident Evil 4 Greatest Hits - $5.00
A nice pristine CIB, cheaper then a used version at Gamestop. 8)

Halo 3 Essentials - $1.00
This was still sealed, I had to look inside. The disc set originally was part of the Special Sedition collection with the helmet. Inside there is an Art Book, Instruction Manual, a DVD including a Red vs Blue Episode utilizing Halo 3 graphics and a 360 disc full of documentaries, slide show and a flash game.

A nice review of the disc set here: http://halo.bungie.org/misc/essentialsreview/

PS2 Gameshark / GBA Gameshark PC Disc - $1.00
This is an early release, a PS2 black bottom disc. I don't think it originally came with a Gameshark GBA cart or the GBA PC disc, but there are two disc holders. Perhaps for another PS2 utility disc? The Fear Factor flyer was inside advertising the group that has the opening song in the Gameshark disc. Curious what else was in the oversized case besides maybe a manual. Does anyone know? :?

NES Friday The 13th - $1.99 / Atari 2600 Star Ship -1.00
Two mediocre games. The NES game is a side scroller platformer, run around and shoot the zombies. The game is not for me, my daughter collects all the monster games, she already has Fester, Toxic Avengers and Adams Family among others. Still on the hunt for NES Chiller.

Atari Star Ship is a Launch Release game, take a look at the 1977 text on the faded label of the cart. Some have a red bordered text label instead, this one compliments my Launch Release Combat cart. Star Ship is a terrible set of games, but marks the first Space themed game for the 2600 and one of the first "FPS" games to come out. This is no Quake though, and Lunar lander is nothing like the Vector Arcade. Oh well, a questionable collectible.

Star Ship Grade: F
Take Star Raiders, remove all of its strategic elements, saddle it with the most hideous graphics ever conceived, and voila, you have Star Ship. Yes, I know this game is really old, but I still can't resist cracking on it. The main game variation is a first-person shooter in the loosest sense of the word, where you try to blast as many big blocky aliens as possible within 2 minutes 16 seconds. Some variations allow a friend to control the aliens you target. Believe me, if you make someone play Star Ship with you, they won't be your friend for long! There are some other incredibly lame variations in which you just try to avoid oncoming squares - umm I mean "asteroids". And the "lunar lander" variations are truly pathetic. You simply move your little ship to the asteroid and push the button. Incredibly, there's no gravity, and hence, no challenge! What an embarrassment! No wonder Atari yanked it from their lineup.

Jaks Namco Super Pacman - $5.00
Another Plug n Play to add to the collection! This portable stick includes Pacman, Pac & Pal, Pacman Plus and Super Pacman. It has a light up Coin Return Button in the front which indicates power on, click to return to the game menu. A nice feature is Super Pacman saves High Scores and has a "diamond" four way switch like the Jaks Pacman Edition. This time unlike the slip up on Bosconion, all four games are four directions only.

Someone help me! I keep collecting these portable systems as posted in my Portable Game Guide. Hey, at least I have not looked at getting full sized Arcade Cabs yet. Some members here have multiple cabinets, I wish I have that much room in my house.

PS1 Final Fantasy VII Black Edition - $20.00
Saved the best for last! It had a sticker price at $30.00, so I haggled my own offer of $20.00. One of the few times I came to the Swap meet late and finding a Treasure at a great price! I guess the seller figured no one would pay the thirty, so let me buy it for only TWENTY DOLLARS!

No way would I ever sell, been wanting to hit all the mini games I have seen video clips and read about. There is a great anthology review of the Final Fantasy releases on the PS2 Final Fantasy XII Special Edition.

If it has 5.1 on the front of the disk (can't read it from you pic), I have that same Gameshark and it does indeed come with a manual. Got mine for $2.50. Mine also has the Fear Factor flyer and a card with a pin. "This PIN number is needed for access to database cheats at http://www.gameshark.com". And looking at those same versions on ebay it looks like it originally only came with one disk. So it looks like you found some nice bonuses in that package

Also, are those FFVII disks silver?

That's what I have too. Bought it at one of those stores where all the cases are on shelves, but all discs are behind the counter. They make screw ups like that all the time. I ended up with one 2-disc game where disc 1 is regular and 2 is greatest hits!

Before I was a serious collector I didn't notice, but now I'm more cognizant of that sort of thing.

Note the Pacman character on the joystick ball, a nice touch. There are six Jaks NAMCO editions, I have three so far. I'm lacking the GameKey editions: wireless Ms Pacman, Pacman Gold and Retro Arcade.

I don't know why Jr Pacman didn't appear on any of the Jak series.

Final Fantasy VII
OOOOH CRAP! I did not realize to look for the white labeled discs, at that price it is not an issue anyways. Agree, probably a mixup of discs from a game store, the seller bought it used years earlier? Even though a pre Dual Shock game, maybe some FF7 black editions do have shiny discs? Oh well, one will never get rich on a gaming investment, I just wanted the complete game to play.

PS2 Gameshark
The version on the disc is 5.3, but no manual or Fear Factory Pin number card. I know the GBA PC disc should not be in there, but why are there two disc holders and why an empty large space in the huge case? It looks like it could fit a GBA oversized Gameshark cart, perhaps the same case is used for the GB and GBA edition?

Pulled the EBay pic, huge case and only one disc, but two disc holders inside.

I see those at different tables once in a while. I don't have a SNES, but I do own a NES. Forgot to post this controller, it was already hooked up to the console in the other room.

Beeshu Zipper Yellow - $4.00
A while back I destroyed a Blue Zipper NES gamepad for my ROB Robot Direct Control Mod. Before anyone head explodes, it was bought at the swap meet for a dollar and had a cut cord. I did not want to chance crossing wires and frying my NES.

The Zipper is a nice Rapid Fire NES game pad. Each button can be set to regular fire or two stages of Rapid Fire, this can be done in the middle of a game. This is very handy for SHMUPS and Balloon Fight, a Joust type of game. Not sure which color is the most rare I have seen Blue, Yellow and Green Beeshu Zipper pads.

No more continual tapping to flap, just hold the button to fly higher. :D
