Yeah, I own 7 VMUs I think and it is a bit of a drag having to swap them all the time to find my saves. Especially the two 3rd party ones that have 4x as much memory, but you have to press a button to flick through the different parts.

so has anyone else played NEO XYX yet? It's really good. Looks great. Great music. But MY GOD, it feels like it's running too fast. Everything moves so quickly. I can't clear the first stage!

RE: VMU's - I could never write on one haha. I have a blue one for my current sports game season. Or rather two - one has NBA 2K and one has NFL 2K right now. I have a grey "main" one for my most played games. I have a grey one that stays in the Agetec as a designated Shmups, Fighters, Puzzle Games one. I have a Pink (Sakura Wars) one for my wife's saves. And planning to get various other colors to help keep things color-coded.

So my makeshift Dreamcab... I've made some mods:




Monitor is now on an old PC, and the stick is no a monitor stand. This gets things to a more comfortable height. Plan is to get some wood and paint it white and replace the old PC and stand so that it looks more integrated. Also the front will be extended horizontally to accommodate two Agetec sticks for co-op - and ideally the 2nd player I'd like to mod the Agetec buttons/balltop to pink like an Astro. Then, close up the open part under the desk with a cabinet so I can get to the DC inside to swap games. Speakers would be mounted (somehow) and all wires will run thru via drilled holes. So... work in progress.

hell yeah. So far the 'cab' has seen DOA2, Garou, Irides, Mr. Driller, Redux, NEO XYX, Puyo Puyo Fever and currently Puzzle Fighter.

Is the Dreamcast somewhere in that pic noise? Under the stick? I think it's going to be awesome with your proposed layout. If you were venturing a project, you could take paint the shell of that monitor unless that's a task too laborious to undertake.

As for memory cards: I'm going to merge a lot of my saves across games onto that 4x memory card we got. There's some stuff that won't xfer, like Shenmue, PSO Characters, and Soul Calibur, but that's on my original memory card with the first games I ever owned. I will let you know my results when all is said and done. As it stands I have like 7 memory cards too.

The console is hidden under the desk area. The idea is to eventually have it all enclosed and look very cab-like. I talked to my brother tonight who has more tools than me, and is better at wood-working than me and he said he's happy to help. So that's a plus.

Painting the shell - maybe. Not sure yet how I'm going to approach the monitor layout.

My boys are still heavily into Rippin' Riders - my 6yo is just ridic, not sure what he's doing, he's putting up 12-15K on the second course and the rest of us are 3-7K.

As I venture into DC again, one thing i'm really gravitating toward all the official (well-made) first party peripherals. I've never been a fan of most peripherals as they don't "match" anything, some are shoddily made, etc - but w/DC, it all does match and everything official i've used has been solidly manufactured. I look forward to a couple twinsticks, fishing rods and steering wheels.
