I saw that, Tanooki. I'm rather hopeful it means Resident Evil stuff on Switch personally.
Anyway, back to Zelda... I've certainly been playing a lot. I will say that there's been some frustrations. A couple of shrines I've run into have been really annoying. There was one with one of those "marble through the maze" kind of puzzles that I kept doing over and over. Eventually I googled and found a bit of a cheat to get around it. There's stuff like that that will all the sudden just pull me out of the wonder of the game and remind me that it's not a perfect game.
But it definitely gets way more right than wrong. And I'm still enjoying just kind of exploring at my own pace. Whenever I pick the game back up I really have no idea where I'm going or what to expect next.
Oh! One of the quests I have now involves going to twelve specific spots where Zelda had taken pictures. I'm not sure if I missed something - am I supposed to like easily figure out where those spots are somehow, or am I expected to just get lucky and stumble to the right areas?

There is an artist that hangs out at Kakariko Village and most of the stables (maybe all of them). He will give you further clues about their locations depending where you talk to him. I think I found maybe two or three of the memory locations wandering around on my own by accident. When it came time to do that quest, I just cheated and looked it up because wondering around aimlessly did not sound fun to me.noiseredux wrote: Oh! Yeah there are 2 or 3 shrines that are frustrating. There is one other gyroscope puzzle that I found insanely frustrating the first time doing it and when revisiting in master mode found super easy... I hope it will be the latter for you.noiseredux wrote:I saw that, Tanooki. I'm rather hopeful it means Resident Evil stuff on Switch personally.

Fear not though, as there are far more awesome shrines than frustrating ones.
As for the pictures, as your explore, you will definitely get a feel for the general area of the photographs and there will be hints along the way to find them. Some of the photos will be blatantly obvious when you get to them, but others.... not so much.
It isn't pull your hair out frustrating though and I do insist that you find all of them before completing the game.

Also the internet is your friend if you get stuck on a picture.

Most of the pictures are fairly easy, and you can talk to the painter NPC at the various stables for a hint. There are a couple or so, however, that I don't think anyone would blame you for looking up online.

If you complete a quest for him, there is also an artist who will tell you where to go.ElkinFencer10 wrote:Also the internet is your friend if you get stuck on a picture.
Noise...I am so happy that you are playing this game. It is sublime. There is so much to do and so much detail. It can drag a bit if you try to do everything, but it really gives you the freedom to do as much or as little as you want. I loved every minute of my 140(!) hours with it, and I am really looking forward to heading back to Hyrule after Nintendo releases the second round of DLC.
Also...my one tip for this game is...there is no "right" way to play it. Everything is fair, and the game let's you approach it any way you please. It took me a little while to get out of that mindset, but once I did, I enjoyed the game even more.

yeah, that's sort of what drew me into this one to begin with. Much of the talk of this game really kind of reminded me of Skyrim for instance. And I've basically been approaching it as such. That is, I just kind of pick a direction and walk and let myself either find a quest or just something interesting to get distracting by; I walk everywhere (no fast travel) so as to give myself more opportunity to stumble upon interesting stuff; as much as possible I avoid any sort of walkthrough or whatever so that I'm just totally discovering things on my own.
Like I said above, I don't consider this a perfect game. (Some convoluted puzzles; my own personal dislike for 'crafting' in games like this). But it is a great game - great Zelda game, which is saying a lot. And ultimately, I think it made a lot of sense for the series to go in this direction.

Re: Zelda Breath of the Wild - Wii U vs. Switch
progress is weird in this game. Maybe everyone has different experiences really. But it's rare that I'm actually completing a main quest. It seems like I'll mostly spend hours still just looking for towers and shrines right now. I don't know how many hours I've played so far (it doesn't tell you until you've owned a game for 10 days, oddly) but I've still only got four heart containers and one stamina upgrade.
Even though I don't necessarily feel like I'm making much progress right now, I am definitely discovering things. For instance I was up on a tower in the rain and got hit by friggin' lightening. I hit continue and there started to be some electricity in the air around me. I switched to a non-metal weapon and that fixed it. Ha! It's cool how common sense these systems work. There's also an area I can't enter because the air is too hot and I burst into flames. Hmm.

Breath of the Wild isn't about strict progression like previous Zelda titles were; it's about the experience, the exploration and discovery. I spent almost 100 hours with my first playthrough, and there was still a LOT of stuff I didn't do or explore.

yeah, I mean this is the vibe I get. And part of why I think I'm enjoying it so much. It def feels a bit like The Elder Scrolls: Zelda to me at times. Which is not a knock.ElkinFencer10 wrote: it's about the experience, the exploration and discovery.
BTW, I don't remember another Zelda game where just basic enemies you encounter feel like such a threat. This game totally feels *hard* at times, and I'm not talking about some of those bullshit shrine puzzles.
