Do you know the name of the original FDS version? Is it simply Super Mario Bros. 2? I have a ROM of something called something like "All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros." this or that. Is that it?
Depending, it might be labeled at SMB 2 or SMB 2J. When Japan got our SMB 2 it was calles SMB 2 USA.

But about the Nippon one...

Yeah, they're sitting next to each other, along with Super Mario Kart, Super Mario RPG, Super Mario World, and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Of those, I only have The Lost Levels and Yoshi's Island left to beat. Maybe this year I'll knock out Lost Levels.

I realize that some folks from on the "I need to beat my games" mentality, but I find it is driving me to finish many of the games in my collection that I likely wouldn't have spent time with normally. Going for a complete set and being driven to actually see them through to the end has given me a much bigger appreciation of my games. Plus, bragging rights.

I'm one of those people too, although there's plenty of SNES games I've thrown the towel in on because I know I'll never be able to beat them (Pilotwings, Super R-Type, Lemmings to name a few).

I do have a question when it comes to games like SimCity or certain puzzle games -- when do you consider those games completed? Or do you just disqualify it from the "finished" tally?

With SimCity, I played through each of the city scenarios and built cities from scratch to the largest possible city size numerous times. But growing up, my SNES copy of SimCity was one of my favorite games to go back to whenever I was feeling bored, so I've probably logged somewhere around 500+ hours into it over the course of two decades.

Most of the puzzle games have a level limit of some form, it just depends on the game. Dr. Mario has an ending sequence at level 20 but continues adding more viruses until level 24. After that, it stays the same until 99, where the game effectively gives you a kill screen. Some games, like Tetris 2, have the 100-level puzzle mode where you have to place a block to get all of the pieces to vanish. And games like Kirby's Avalanche and Wario's Woods have pre-set levels to beat, though I believe both of these go up to 100.

I just finished Lost Levels.

I swear some of the stages feel like straight up trolling by Nintendo/Miyamoto. Seriously Ack, you need to play this.

Next up is Mario 2 (on All-Stars), Mario 3 (on All-Stars), Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, and then Super Mario Land 2 (which I will play on my SNES via Super Game Boy).

Oh and I still have to start Ogre Battle.

You know I dislike platformers, right?

Also...gotta beat Ogre Battle first. I'm almost there.

There are certain platformers I absolutely adore, but for the most part there is a lot about the genre I dislike. The majority of my interest in the SNES came from fighting games and RPGs originally. I own quite a few platformers for the console, but it's more that there are just so many than it being a conscious effort to track them down for personal enjoyment.

But my favorite games tend to be FPS, RPGs, fighters, or horror games.

You know, I would hang out with him more, but every time I see him, he gets drunk and shouts, "Deus Ex SUCKS!" and then Popo shows up, and they fight. It just really wears me down.
