After I played through and finished it, I can see now why this game got such high ratings when it was released and why it is such a popular franchise in the UK. It had platforming and adventure elements that reminded me of Gods, another European-developed game with the same type of genre I enjoyed very much. It's a shame many are missing out on a pretty unique experience this month.
Speaking of which, I recently acquired Gods. It will probably be after the summer challenge that I can get to it, but do you recommend it?

Been playing The Sims lately...Pretty positive it's not a game you can beat.

Placed first in every level of Excitebike, maybe that counts as "beating" the game.

I think the sims is kind of like Viva Pinata or those Animal Crossing games. It's more about accomplishing personal goals than "beating the game."

51. Willy Beamish Sega CD *new*

I had Willy Beamish for my parent's IBM PS/1 when I was a kid, and I pretty much thought it was the greatest thing since ecto-cooler. The edginess, the graphics, hot animated chicks...I loved it all. This was a game where I felt I was the main character, and it put me into an alternate cartoon universe where I could be as mischievous as I wanted to be with the only consequence being a Game Over screen.

Things change with time.

I still love the charm of Willy Beamish, but that is about all. I wish I still had the love for the game like I used to but as you grow older, you value your time more, and this game is a time suck. The manual should state "Press B. Wait twenty minutes. Repeat".

Here is a list of things I did while beating Willy Beamish, and I am being dead serious. Not trying to get a laugh, not trying to be silly. Dead serious:

Separated laundry (delicates and whites), started a load of whites

Removed the colors laundry from the dryer

Folded and ironed the colors

Had a great conversation with my Grandmother via telephone

Trimmed my dogs nails

Organized my sega cd and genesis collection

Vacuumed and dusted the second and third floors

Windexed the windows and televisions

Polished my black leather captoes

Took apart an oscillating fan, cleaned it, put it back together

Organized a bin of video game odds and ends (wires, controllers, adapters)

Checked my finances

Wrote the grocery list for the week

...and I'm probably forgetting a few things.

edit*

With all my gripes, this is still great:

4. Cave Story 3D (3DS)
5. Theatrhytm Final Fantasy (3DS)

9. Metal Slug Advance (GBA)
10. Caveman Ninja (ARC)
11. Wario Land II (GBC)
12. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (GC)

Aftrer 45+ hours of play time, I rolled the credits on Paper Mario: TTYD (GC) last night. I will write about it in more detail in the Summer Challenge thread.

Also, I am still trying to get all of the treasure, map pieces, endings, etc. in Wario Land II (GBC). The game is a lot of fun, but I expect to "complete" it before the end of the week. (Then...I will probably move on to Wario Land 3 (GBC) for more of the same!)

No Wario Land on the VB?

I'll have to check out WL2, as I still love the first installment.

I'd love to play the older ones, but I started with Wario Land II because: (1) I don't have a Virtual Boy; and (2) my copy of Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land is not holding a save...Once I have played through the rest of the games in the series, I may have to <gasp!> emulate both of them.

Also Wario Land II is an interesting game...Wario is invicible; so, you can't really lose. (It is like Kirby's Epic Yarn (Wii) in that respect.) You can, however, lose your coins - which you need to obtain treasures and map pieces - and getting through certain areas can be quite frustrating. While it is not quite a puzzle platformer, completing the game requires a good bit of sequential reasoning. I really enjoyed it, and I recommend giving it a shot.
