got a good source on this? I don't see how the same basic tech in a PS3 and a 360 ($150-$200 machines at retail for models with more storage than a WiiU) + a very basic and relatively small non-capacitive pad = $300.

Its newer tech and that gamepad isn't cheap.

But Nintendo has stated on several occasions that it is a loss, though not a big one. Once stating that they make a profit after you buy one game.

I'm too tired to fetch links right now.

the tech may be newer but it isn't more powerful, so I am not sure how that breaks down in price.

The gamepad IS cheap - it isn't much more sophisticated than something you might find here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... -%20%24100

Here's one.

I'm not sure how they get that cost up as high as they do either.

I saw this commercial for the Wii U on television last night.

I'm convinced. The Wii U is fucking hardcore; no doubt about it.

Lol!!! But I must say I don't think the OS is that bad.. Definitely better than the Wii and I didn't mind that either.. Not as slow as some people are suggesting..

From your post in this thread I gathered you read up on a lot of articles concerning the Wii U. You really missed the ones where Reggie and others from Nintendo stated that if you bought one game with their console they would then make a profit?

yup, I missed them. I still think they are folding in R&D costs into that figure, as the basic hardware costs, when priced based on specs found in other tech, are less than the MSRP...

Does anyone else think that certain Wii games on the Wii U look worse upscaled? Like for instance, I played Brawl on it.. It looks pretty bad in comparison to when I play it on Wii..

Wow. The team that did this advertisement should be fired. "All new Wii-U gamepad controller"? Way to effectively confuse people still not it's an entirely new system. Nintendo needs to get the message out that it's actually a new console, I've yet to see something along the lines of the "Wii would like to play campaign," but it'd be a good departure of this karaoke machine BS.
