Re: What is your retro video game spirit animal?
Jt, I want to say thank you tremendously for such a touching write-up. I am not going to lie, I have been in a very dark place and this has cheered me up to no end. It is hard, being a positive and happy person, especially since most respond in one of two ways. They either react with anger and vitriol as if being happy is being weak, or they react with, "That's nice, but I am keeping my distance." It is a lonely road, especially being an adult man with no friends and an over-exuberant amount of work that keeps me from doing the things I genuinely love. So thank you. I appreciate it. I got a little teary-eyed.

I'm happy I could provide you a pick-me-up BMF. Consider it a return on your investment as I know you have done the same for me at times. The "Her Story" moment was just one example, though that gift really did make my week. I'm glad I can return the favor.
I've heard from a few other highly positive people that they can feel misunderstood when people don't get that it often times takes real effort to maintain a positive outlook. People assume that if ignorance is bliss, then all bliss must arise from ignorance, but anyone who has taken a basic course on logic knows that that deduction doesn't follow. I think people get jealous too, thinking that positivity must not know hardship, since sadness more obviously does. Really, maintaining optimism without giving up realism can be a real fight because pessimism is a powerful foe, easy to give in to. As you've noted, adult life is particularly challenging where we have more personal responsibilities and fewer friends (both because they are less available and harder to find time for).
Nevertheless, you have to be the kind of person you want the world to be made up of. It's easy to feel under-valued or alone in that endeavour because a lot of people (myself included) are bad at expressing our gratitude and appreciation for the daily acts of kindness we receive in our lives, but sometimes a smile or kind word at the right time makes a huge difference. I know someone who had given up on humanity and wanted to die, but in the midst of that suicidal ideation was greeted with a smile and hello by a friendly stranger walking by. That tiny little interaction challenged their notion that the world doesn't care and helped them get through that tough time and now they are still alive today, much happier, and wish they could thank that unknown person. Sometimes those tiny acts of kindness are a matter of life and death and we never even know it. So I hope you will stay big hearted and I'll feel inspired to try to do the same.

I agree. My spirit animal may be purple tentacle, but even I can appreciate the insight ad optimism you bring this to this forum. If you ever need anything, please do not hesitate to let me know.

As long as we're admitting our love for folks, JT, I love you, too, man. You're a great storyteller. You clearly have both love for and a knack with narrative.
Re: What is your retro video game spirit animal?
I'm gonna say my gaming spirit animal is Geralt of Rivia, from The Witcher series.
We both don't say much, unless we feel we have something important to say. We both love the frequent use of sarcasm. We both try to act somewhat aloof and don't enjoy cleaning up after others, when in reality we don't really know how to say no especially when someone close is asking for help. We both have long hair, and like to drink vodka.
Also I'm a huge nerd for The Witcher, so I can't really imagine choosing anyone else.
Too bad I don't look nearly as good with my shirt off as Geralt does. And I guess I could stand to be more confident like he is. Something to work towards I guess.
I am quite curious if JT and Dhalsim agree however.

I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

I'm meaning to get back to this thread, and have a few ideas brewing, I've just been having too much fun with Halloween aand VGM stuff lately, so I haven't gotten around to writing my next Dhalsim story.

I sent this to BMF this morning first, but wanted to let everyone know I've taken this spirit animal thing to heart. Check out my new ride.
