Doubtful, though.

Any news of what vastly superior arcade titles will be playable in-game?
Hahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahahhaahahahahahahahaha.

Sorry. I'm laughing at you, not with you.

Story was originally 16 chapters IIRC and Shenmue 2 stopped at the end of chapter 6.

I'm calling another cliffhanger & Shenmue 4 releasing in 2030 :D

With the way Shenmue 3's kickstarter is going, I don't think it will end this abruptly. If you saw Yu Suzuki's speech on the development of Shenmue 1, he put up an outline of what was going to happen in the series. I don't think he could possibly compact the story so tightly into a kickstarted project.

Might I remind you about the biggest mindfuck at the end?

I think one of the stretch goals should be Yu Suzuki autographed sailor caps.

Sega has allowed Yu Suzuki to use the Shenmue License for Shenmue 3 (Kickstarter FAQ), but it looks like Shenmue and Shenmue 2 are still owned by Sega, so it might be a longshot to get HD re-releases. Still, who knows, nothing is impossible as we learned last night!

Anyone think the 2M initial was a low-ball? Some critics are saying that that's an absolutely low number, but they use it in contrast to the original costing 70M+ without considering the engine design and everything else that went into it. Can they pull this game off with 2M as a baseline?

Both the cost of production and the time to produce have gone down siginificantly in the last decade.

Does that 70m number include the beta Saturn version?

So I just started Shenmue 1 on the Dreamcast, should I play Shenmue 2 Pal version on the DC or the US Xbox version? I kind of like the cheesey English dub.

They may have other funding lined up, with the Kickstarter there to demonstrate interest and whatnot. Some other projects (Bloodstained for example) have made specific mention of doing that.

Play Shenmue 1 and 2 on Dreamcast PAL versions both. You can import your save from Shenmue 1 to 2, which includes the capsule toys you collect and the moves you learn and progress with.

I'm pretty sure that it did include the Saturn version of the game. They probably blanketed it all into one. I think that's what most people who aren't quite familiar with its development don't consider, fast, is that the engine was a huge piece. With them using Unreal Engine, I imagine some of it will be fairly easy to make.

I don't know which to back? I really want a copy of the soundtrack but will I really use it? The figures are cute but not worth $500 for my budget.

I think $150 or $175 is my sweet spot.
