Been saving for the everdrive. I got the funds now just trying to find someone to buy it and hook it up for me

I can help you with loading your micro sd card. Just let me know. If I can find one laying around here I can hook you up with it. Gratis of course, but I have to dig around. I used to have many of them, but then my wife used them and well.....mas wrote:Been saving for the everdrive. I got the funds now just trying to find someone to buy it and hook it up for me

Gave these a quick go yesterday. Some brief thoughts:alienjesus wrote:I picked up a few new games for PC Engine & Turbografx today -

Alien Crush: This is a fun little pinball game, but I have to be honest, it feels pretty easy. I wasn't really trying very hard and I ended up playing for an hour, gaining a few extra balls along the way. I actually ended up turning it off on my last ball because I'd just kinda had enough of it by that point. If I intend to play this, I'll need to put aside some serious time for it!
The Legendary Axe: I expected this to feel kinda like Castlevania, but it honestly didn't at all. The jumping is a bit weird, it kinda reminds me of Ninja Turtles on NES, where you turn on a dime in midair, and have some odd momentum after doing so. It's not quite that bad though. On the other hand, attacking feels quite stiff - there's a delay after attacking before it will attack again, and it makes dealing with enemies feel a lot more deliberate and difficult than the platforming. I didn't get far, I died on the boulder boss in stage 2 and then turned off to try another game.
R-Type: I played this on Master System earlier in the year for Together Retro, where I found it challenging but fun. This version is harder though - your ship feels much slower (maybe because it's so much larger on screen) and your hitbox seems bigger. I'll need a lot of practice to get through this one I think.I...also kinda prefer the SMS port (blasphemy!).
Parasol Stars: I was quite clumsy when playign this one - I died a lot early on and didn't make it very far. Once I've figured out the mechanics though, the early levels at least seem easy enough. This is a Bubble Bobble sequel though, so I can imagine it getting brutal, and this version having limited continues means I might not manage to finish it. The brolley mechanics are fun though, and the game is full of big, colourful graphics. I'm glad I got this one!

Yeah The Legendary Axe is a game I really really want to like but I don't.
Re: How's your TurboGrafx 16/PC Engine Going on
The Legendary Axe requires a cautious and measured approach, but once you adjust to the mechanics it can be very fun.
Some tips:
Each attack can hurt only one enemy. You can't swing your axe and expect to hit multiple enemies. But that rapid directional change during jumps can help. Just do a little hop in at the enemy and attack and then turn back as soon as your attack hits.
You should almost never attack while standing still on the ground.
Learn to love the short hop AND your turbo switches.
The game is ultimately very worth it, and the music is great.

I think it has potential to be fun, but I think the learning curve is going to be quite harsh - I was getting bounced around an awful lot.marurun wrote:The Legendary Axe requires a cautious and measured approach, but once you adjust to the mechanics it can be very fun.

Why do I need the turbo switches?
Re: How's your TurboGrafx 16/PC Engine Going on
Well, I guess you don't NEED the turbo switches, but there are a couple or three enemy types for which the constant hit stun of rapid attacks is far more valuable than the damage of a charged attack.
And I do think the investment is worth it. This is a game that feels particularly rewarding when you get the mechanics down and learn slowly how to progress against increasing odds. I beat it just a couple years ago after several years of not playing, and it was lovely.

how are you enjoying it? I heard Working Designs tweaked the difficulty so much that is is so hard and is nearly impossible.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Awww yeah.
Was finally able to track this down for a price that didn't make me want to run screaming. The recent sale of my duplicate Harvest Moon also helped.
Looking forward to this one. Its predecessor (which I only have on Genesis) is one of my favorite games of all time.

Haven't played it! I'd like to hit up the original Exile on CD first.
But yeah, Working Designs really mucked a bit too much with their games. Really hate some of the stuff they did with Lunar 2 and Popful Mail.
