I agree.

This:

Whelp, here we go. I've got a couple games I put on hold but this is the first one I am abandoning in 2015:

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

Without getting into spoiler territory, the story is just too fucking stupid to proceed. And that is after I somehow managed to brute force my way through Metal Gear Solid 4 despite that game's patchwork quilt of bullshit, deus ex machina, and technobabble that substituted for a plot.

And it's a shame because the gameplay (although repetitive after the first couple of hours) really is inspired and the graphics are quite good. I've never played a game that gave you more ways to solve a problem than this. But the problem is that a game like this demands a lot of a player's time and attention - the narrative is supposed to be the glue that binds the gameplay and the hours together and give you a reason to push forward.

Plot twists for the sake of having plot twists that invalidate the game's entire plot with no pay off or reward? Maybe it's for the best that Hideo Kojima will be moving on to new projects.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

The fact that you even started to play that game is so much more than I'd ever be willing to do.

If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have. As far as I am concerned, the entirety of Metal Gear Solid is contained within the original PSX game and Twin Snakes for the Gamecube. A nice, self contained story that begins and ends in Alaska and nothing else ever happened.

So wait, you didn't like Metal Gear Solid 2, or 3, or 4, and you still went out and bought 5?

Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater are fantastic games. They haven significant flaws (especially Sons of Liberty) buy they were incredibly playable and got me psyched for Metal Gear Solid 4. And then....well, nano-machines, son.

Peace Walker was a great experience that got me back into the fold for this terrible debacle.

I tried playing Ground Zeroes with the intent on moving on to Phantom Pain after that. Didn't take long for me to be reminded of why I hate Metal Gear games and find the whole franchise very overrated. Metal Gear games have the absolute worse stealth gameplay within the entire genre and awkward controls. That has never changed and never will

And the story

The first game was pretty awesome though for its time.

Can Kojima just go back to that series of his that doesn't suck? The one with all the cool flying mechs and jpop

Killer Instinct (SNES)

First of all, that game gives me thumb cramps in the absolute worst way. I can only play for like 15 - 20 minutes before they begin killing me. And I think because the game is such a button masher. Unless you can do the combos and they hit at the right opening, that is the only way to do damage in that game. You can't use regular attacks or special moves like in Street Fighter. The game is cheap and unforgiving. I've tried liking it, but I just can't. It's bad, it hurts and I'm done.

I've given up on Hotline Miami 2. I think I was approaching the end but it's just not fun and I can't be arsed to push through. I appreciate them trying to change up the formula somewhat but it's just frustrating whereas Hotline 1 was punishing. Shame.
