Board Games: The Thread (Come say hi!)

It's not too bad. Pull 3 or 4 cards from the deck prior to play and it's safe for anyone older than about 7 or 8.

Fair enough. I played alot of munchkin back when I was playing weekly D&D games. I honestly have not played it in the last three years. So it might be some of the early expansions cards I have been thinking about. That said the comedy in the childrens game or say Oz, will be more universal than the numerous D&D jokes that pepper the base game.

Right now we are playing alot of Talisman and Ogre at my house.

We havent busted out talisman in awhile. And my Ogre still hasnt even been opened.

On a boardgaming site that Eriktwice and myself both frequent they do a yearly commit to playing 10 old games 10 times each with rampant discussion of choices (kinda like the summer gaming challenge here). Ogre/GEV is one of my choices, since I have not played GEV properly since the 90s. But last night I was introduced to Summoner Wars and I am trying to not get hooked (played five matches last night). It is a mix of a cardgame and a wargame that plays fast and has tons of tactical choices.

For those curious my list for 2016 is:

Thats a solid mix of American and Wargames since I know I will play some heavy euros come the spring (sadly those around me hate Dune). 90% of the games can be played in under an hour per match and the heaviest on the list are solo play - Pattons Best and Armor Attacks. I am hoping to get 10 games of Wizwar in, its hard for me to get people interested even though it is one of the best games ever made.

I would participate but I own only 8 games with 10 or less plays, three of which have around 8 plays, two are 18XX titles and the other is The Republic of Rome

I have actually been thinking about getting a new game for a very long time 1 or 2 years at least. I have the money now but I'm still undecided because, well, most of the games I want are either heavy, almost lifestyle games that require a lot of involvement and half a dozen players like Dune, Battletech and Age of Renaissance. Perhaps even Time Agent and at least two or three guys have told me I would love Magic Realm. But my regular group is composed of myself and two other players which is an awful number (No Cosmic Encounter )

If I were serious, I think my list would be something like this:

You can get Pocket OGRE, which is a budget recreation of the original OGRE release, for like $3. That's what I paid for it, at a convention no less. Sure, the map and punch-outs are all really small, but it's $3 for OGRE!

Over the weekend I got to play a game of Arkham Horror!

I had a lot of fun but wow, it can be pretty mean haha. It took a long time finish (about 5 1/2 hours), but we did manage to beat the bad thing (I forgot what they are called ._.) Next time we play it it will probably go much faster since we had to look at the rule book very frequently.

I bought a dozen copies of it to give away the year it came out. If you like Pocket Ogre, you can buy the board and chits from SJG to get a nice big classic copy for about $50 before shipping. I bought the chits in the kickstarter so I could have six people play, then my boardgame group fell apart. Now we use the chits over the 3d models, unless we are playing at a convention.

Whats the average price to post a mailer to Spain from the US? I might have a spare, I am not sure. We are rearranging our library/gameroom right now so I do not know how many spare copies I have. I am surprised that you havent had Barnes shoot you one. He was all about the pocket version for a while.

Yeah, I backed it, I almost bought two copies. I was part of two boardgaming groups a week for a couple years. We had a wellworn version of Ogre for when two people were kicked out of a game like Titan early. So I played it quite a bit. I was also running a convention at the time, and a gigantic game is easier to get people to play. I had a version of Spacehulk I built with epic 40k minis and we played it on a 3x6 whiteboard with magnetic pieces. I always had a line of people wanting to play.
