I've been thinking about the 3D Classics since I'm going to get a 3DS soon and its nice to see a positive post about them. I might get one or two of them to try.84pontiacdream wrote:Anyone pick up the 3D Classic games on the 3DS eShop that came out recently? ...
They look really great, M2 did an awesome job with everything.

I'm planning on grabbing Shinobi 3 since it's one of my favorite 16-bit games, period. Good to hear they did a nice job on it.84pontiacdream wrote:Anyone pick up the 3D Classic games on the 3DS eShop that came out recently? I've been playing Ecco and Shinobi 3, also did a play through of Streets of Rage the other night. They look really great, M2 did an awesome job with everything.
Edit: I still prefer playing on the original hardware of course, but it's really nice to see these classic games in stereoscopic 3D. The depth in Streets of Rage is really cool.

Huh. I find Batman to be really, really easy. It's a game I beat every year, usually more than that. You can beat almost every boss by just jumping on them multiple times.samsonlonghair wrote:I Recently bought BATMAN for Sega Genesis. This one is based on the 1989 film with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson, not the Animated Series.
I genuinely like the art and the music. It's missing the famous Danny Elfman theme, but the original game music by Naoki Kodaka is excellent.
On the other hand, this game is brutally hard.
It's usually a straight run for me, usually only losing lives in the Batplane level and the (I think) next to last level with all the flame blowing mimes.
The score has some of my favorite Sega Genesis music on the console. Yeah, it may not be Elfman, but it definitely has a Batman feel to it, and the opening theme with the spinning Bat symbol is pretty rad.

I wrote that post in October, on the day I bought the game. I still maintain that the first time you play the game it's very hard, but I admit that it grows easier on successive playthroughs. The enemy attack patters don't seem to change (at least not that I saw) so level memorization can make the game easier to an experienced player.
If you play the game every year, you probably know every secret and enemy location by now. I have no doubt that you could cakewalk through this game. It's not so easy the first time you play (or maybe I just stink at vidya games).

I doubtlessly agree with this part. As soon as I saw that spinning Bat symbol, I knew I had to buy this game.Luke wrote:The score has some of my favorite Sega Genesis music on the console. When I purchased the Genesis, it was pre-Sonic time. The console came with Altered Beast and for a coupon for a free game. There were a few choices and the coupon stated "May not get game chosen". Good thing too, as I checked Hard-Drivin' (I was expecting the exact game as in the arcade).samsonlonghair wrote: If you play the game every year, you probably know every secret and enemy location by now.
I was sent Batman instead so I've been playing Batman since the early 90's, every year. I remember I would sit around for minutes watching Batman block rockets with his gauntlets, and the explosions still look awesome. I also always sit through the entire introduction. Not the best Batman game, but one of my favorites.
It's "very Genesis" if that makes any sense.

I definitely feel you on this point.Luke wrote:It's "very Genesis" if that makes any sense.
The detailed Graphics on a limited color palette, the bass-heavy sound, and the arcade-style gameplay (even for games that weren't arcade ports) all scream "Sega Genesis" to me.

Yes, there's a specific flavor to a lot of Genesis games that's hard to describe to someone who wouldn't get what you mean. It's true of the grid-style box era titles especially.
I'm not knocking the later games but I feel like the Genesis lost something in its later years as it started trying too hard to be the SNES.
