Steambox is not required. However in some peoples houses, they do not have the ability to hookup the computer to the tv. The steambox allows this, along with the ability to play some games natively. So if you want to play Left 4 Dead 2, you can do it on the Steambox itself, but if you wanted to play Saints Row 4, you could not (since it is not Linux compatible).

0 lag is not technically possible.

Onlive is still alive:
http://www.onlive.com/
It has carved out a nice market of business users aswell as the gaming market.

You can if you want.

But say someone like me. My gaming PC is in my gameroom. Now I can just throw a crappy PC in the living room w/ SteamOS installed on it (free download) and stream a game to the living room TV. SteamOS can be installed on any PC, not exclusively a SteamBox.

I'd assume it can't be completely crappy to stream properly, it doesn't have to be amazing or anything, but not completely crap.

We'll find out more details early next year. Hopefully it'll be more than enough. I imagine it would be for streaming, but who knows?

I plan on Stress testing it as low as possible. I have a 300mhz AMD geode I am going to try it on.

It surprisingly runs Open Arena decently. It will technically run Halflife, but the 0-1 fps makes it a techdemo.

Maybe they can release OnLive app on PS4 ,then I do not have to buy a PC AND console . Then again, if OnLive doesn't high spec. hardware I can just run it on my laptop.

I guess the idea of SteamOS is to install it on an Ouya ...

At present, SteamOS is, I think, limited to x86 processors. I don't think Valve is shooting for the ARM market.
