my sorrow to the conn school shootings

^All in jest.
Re: my sorrow to the conn school shootings
If someone goes into a school and kills 28 people or however many, 20 or so of them being children, you DO have something wrong in your head; be it diagnosed with something in the DSM-IV or not. Plenty of people that that would have something described in that document are non-diagnosed. I'll guarantee you that most people with BPD, for example, have never been diagnosed with anything... or have been misdiagnosed.J T wrote:2.) Many people that commit murder do not have a mental disorder, at least not anything that is described in the DSM-IV.

You should feel sorry for both the killer and the people he killed.
It's clear the killer had some major issues. Doesn't look like the guy was happy at all.
Biggest blame goes to the mother if you ask me.
Don't keep multiple guns in the house when you have a disturbed adolescent running around. Seriously...

My school is beefing up security now.
For years now there have been way too many random people roaming the hallways, "visiting" children, etc. I've brought up the problem before, but it's fallen on deaf ears.

Even if they were living at home at this point, 20 years old isn't exactly an adolescent. Whomever let a person with issues have access to firearms fails at a judgement call for sure.elmagicochrisg wrote:Don't keep multiple guns in the house when you have a disturbed adolescent running around. Still, you know what I mean...A DEFINITION OF ADOLESCENCE
Adolescence begins with the onset of physiologically normal puberty, and ends when an adult identity and behaviour are accepted. This period of development corresponds roughly to the period between the ages of 10 and 19 years, which is consistent with the World Health Organization’s definition of adolescence.
Those responsible for providing healthcare to adolescents must allow sufficient flexibility in this age span to encompass special situations such as the emancipated minor or the young person with a chronic condition leading to delayed development or prolonged dependency.

Abilene is hardly a large city, and other than the occasional fight our schools aren't too terribly violent or anything either.Forlorn Drifter wrote:I'm surprised so many of you had uniformed officers and metal detectors and the like at your schools.
I guess its because I go to a smaller country school, but I can't imagine that. We have a bad fight on occasion, but we've never had anything that third party students/faculty couldn't handle...
On the question of armed people being at the schools, I don't know about other states, but in Texas ONLY officers can have any kind of firearm on school property, and even then it is preferred that they don't.
Our school cop was a pretty swell dude, actually.

Abilene would surely be bigger than my school. What, would it break 5A? Ours is currently the smallest 3A in Texas. Overall, our school is considered the "best" of our area, in comparison to nearby Seguin, which is right off of I 10 and is one of the major stops on the drug runs into San Antonio.AppleQueso wrote:Abilene is hardly a large city, and other than the occasional fight our schools aren't too terribly violent or anything either.Forlorn Drifter wrote:I'm surprised so many of you had uniformed officers and metal detectors and the like at your schools.

Ours is a 5A, yeah. Abilene's not a small town, but it's a pretty small city. Kinda Odessa or Midland sized if you've ever been out there.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Abilene would surely be bigger than my school. What, would it break 5A? Ours is currently the smallest 3A in Texas. I've always lumped Midland/Odessa into two sides of the same town, but I know what you mean.
