Nothing will quell the sadness.

That was actually January 2012's issue. The last issue of Nintendo Gamer was October 2012, with this cover - Image. It was a very emotional issue, as it includes every cover since 1992, along with writers throughout the years naming their favourite games and moments writing for the magazine. I've never read a better gaming magazine. Fortunately the magazine still lives on here. There are still regular updates, although the whole site is ONE GUY, Chris Scullion who is essentially keeping the magazine alive himself, along with lots of interaction via Facebook and Twitter. It's a real community thing now.

I actually like the magazine format and the writers are not bad either (plus it seems they give free stuff with the mag). So it will be my only dedicated Nintendo Magazine left.
Official Nintendo Magazine used to absolutely suck. It has improved recently due to the influx of improved writers and less dumbed down approach, including writers who I remember from the Dreamcast era such as Chandra Nair and Tim Weaver, but otherwise it still feels very simplified and kiddie. One of the areas that Nintendo Gamer was better was it's appreciation of Nintendo's history and regularly paying homage to retro games, Official Nintendo Magazine was all about the now, even the directory at the back would only feature "Top 5 Platformers, Top 5 Fighters" etc. Which probably hasn't changed in years. It's a magazine in transition though and I hope that the extra writers improve the product.

I was the first kid at my school to get Nintendo power as my parents subscribed me. I had it up until college in 1994. It replaced my Ranger Rick magazine subscription, thankfully, and I devoured every issue every month. I won a subscriber contest in the late 80's and was awarded V-Spike Volleyball, a fourscore and an NES advantage. To this day, it's the only time I've EVER won a contest.

I haven't read Nintendo Power in well over 15 years, but I have very fond memories of it. Sad.

I started my subscription to NP when they were giving out the first Dragon Quest. I only subscribed a couple times over the years though. I picked up a couple copies over the weekend. One to read and one to keep sealed.

Just got back from some XMAS shopping at Walmart. Not a single issue of NP in sight.

*sigh*

Gonna hit up Barnes & Noble before work tomorrow. If I can't find it there, I'm gonna have to cave in, and try to get a copy online. Looks like prices have already skyrocketed for this thing on ebay... shucks.

I've got mine. I don't know how many they had, but when I got there Walmart only had 3 copies. Usually they have 3X that. So I would advise anyone who wants one to get it as soon as possible. Waiting in this case is probably a bad idea.

Barnes & Noble by my work had about 10 copies, but the one by my house had none. I'm glad I was able to get a copy.
