My pads were the real thing, but they still had some Engrish on them. I'm pretty sure SHOW ME YOUR COOL STUFF!! was on the box, which became a phrase I enjoyed shouting at people.

Thanks for sharing your instructions, ExedExes. I love the "Put it on a flat floor, but not too smooth" advice. They're not kidding. Anybody else almost break their necks on those soft plastic dance pads? I attempted Double Mode once in my carpeted living room and nearly knocked my teeth out on the family piano following my first spastic leap. They should have illustrated this with a caution sign like the ones that read "WET FLOOR," but with the unfortunate stick figure man sliding to his doom on a dance pad instead of a puddle.

The DDR gift was one of the best I've ever gotten. I've never gotten tired of 2nd Mix once in the 10+ years I've had it. I highly recommend it. I should branch out someday, but the songs in that version are pretty satisfying.

If you've been around the DDR block with other platform releases even marginally, prepare to be a bit dissapointed. The song list for both 2nd Mix and Club Mix (even together) on DC have not aged well IMO and the limited selelction of songs doesn't help whatsoever (very little unlockables in 2nd mix). The graphics are also rather dated (which is understandable considering how early these releases were for their time), but the fact that niether release on the dreamcast supports VGA under any circumstance doesn't its cause at all.

Just so you know where I'm coming from in terms of the series, my first REAL exposure to the franchise came from the 1st official US release of DDR for the PS1. This game is more or less identical to the 2 Import DDR games on Dreamcast (near identical song list and same awfully dated UI). The only reason I have Both on DC myself is because I got them on the cheap for $10 on ebay for both.

Ah, after reading this part of your post I can see why you enjoy it. For me personally, one of the greatest DRR releases is Konamix on the PS1. This US exclusive (and sequel to the US release of DDR on PS1) is really what turned me from a casual player to a hardcore player. Its song selection is amazingly versatile, increadibly robust, and takes the best tracks from every arcade installment up to that point in the series and then some with some exclusive tracks. If you wanna speard your wings, Konamix is the best way to start.

No problem. It should be rather easy to find as the game was perhaps the starting point of success for the franchise in the US consumer market so it became one of the final Greatest Hits releases for the PS1. I'm almost certain you will enjoy it.

Never played ddr outside an hour of mario mix.

If such is the case then you may find something worthwhile in the DC releases of DDR. The reasons I posted previously are what keep me from enjoying these 2 offerings on Dreamcast.

PS1 DDR 3rd Mix Import is my favorite, I love the Captain Jack and Vol 4 tracks. I was so nuts on DDR, even built a custom shell for a Konami Pad for the car show. Dreamcast also had a Indy home brew of sorts called Feet Of Fury. The customize your own song tracks does not seem very intuitive though. The PS2 Dance Factory is a lot easier for the custom tracks.
