I played Ep1 on the same (2nd) difficulty. I found it easier than Ep2.

I'm playing on difficulty 2. Good decision for Episode 2 so far. E2M6 is another BAD level. Narrow corridors and many zombies = death

It drives me nuts that Wolf3D doesn't have a middle difficulty. Which one is supposed to be "normal"?

Anyways, I was surprised to learn about all the ways you can play this game.
I'm especially impressed by the Win port of the Mac version (Macenstein). That one looks, sounds, and plays quite well. I guess it's based on the Jaguar port, which explains why I like it: the Jag version is the only one I've played all the way through.

My only complaint is that I can't get the automap to work, but there's always the NewWolf port for that. I may even alternate ports for each episode.

I found some of the Jag music files to replace a couple tracks. It's version of "Evil Incarnate" in particular really gets me going for boss levels.

I played through Episode 1 via Dosbox. Then tried to move onto Macenstein: 3rd Encounter for Ep. 2.
"Bring 'em On" is just killing me though. I may have to wimp it down to the 2nd diff.; or just abuse the save slots.

I just tried the SNES version on PS2 (SNES Station emulator).
I'm actually didn't expect it to play right, considering that emulator doesn't like Mario Kart. But, from what I can tell, it's very playable for a 3D SNES game.
Gotta' love giant mutant rats.

Episode 2 complete, and boy is it satisfying to see the mad scientist go down (with instant replay!)

E2M8 is crazy with all the secret rooms in it, about half the map has 4x4 chambers where you gotta get through a maze of pushwalls and watch out for enemies in certain areas within.

I saved that particular level on another slot on my GBA cart so I can attack it separately another time.

I hope this is the end of those damn zombies that kept killing me.

Time to go on a Hitler hunt in ep 3!

I think I'll move on to RTCW after Episode 3, since the game isn't gripping me that much. I'll probably plow through what's left today and tomorrow.

I am currently playing through Wolf3D on my iPhone during my lunch breaks at work and what not, takes a little while to get use to the controls, but once you do its easy enough, the one thing I hate about the ios version is the higher the sensitivity, the fast you walk, so if you want to be able to walk fast, you need to have the controls barely useable, its a pain!

This version has an onscreen map, which just takes away from the feel of the game so I don't use it.

It's amazing how many secret passages I remember.

Turns out E2M8 is where the infamous "Aardwolf" message appears in one of those 4x4 chambers. Apogee was gonna use that for a contest but they figured there were already cheats and level editors released shortly after the game came out so they abandoned the idea.

Stole this from the now-3DRealms forums on how to get to that room. Be careful, the Episode 1 boss with his 2 chainguns is in one of these rooms if you don't follow the directions right (which also nixes the 100% Kill Ratio bonus on this floor)

NOTE: I read that this only appears on early PC-release titles. Your modern port may contain just a bonepile sprite where the message originally was. ExedExes on behalf of the Racketboy community will not be held liable for time wasted/lives lost looking for it.

Technically, Wolf3D is just the first 3 episodes (if I'm understanding correctly). Episodes 4-6 were an add-on pack that came with later re-releases.
