It seems everything i do on here is wrong. (confusion)

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Whew. For a second I thought your handle was short for "Professional Grammar" and were about to go to troll city.
You mean Jacksonville?
Ouch...I love Jacksonville (or "Boomtown", as I call it). It is perhaps my favorite retro-gaming shopping location in North Carolina.

My handle - which is terrible - is actually short for "Professional Gamer". Nonetheless, I will viciously critique an author's grammar in formal writing, but - unless someone is bragging about their intelligence and belittling others - I do not care how people write on message boards.

I get that on some levels, but I do take a bit of umbrage at the overall comment.
I'm on GameFAQs for a good bit -- I just avoid all the "tourist-y" areas (new consoles, new games); the lesser-ventured boards (where new posts appear weekly than daily) are pretty mellow: older game/console boards, hobby sections, Classic Gaming.

Does dyslexia really affect writing THAT much? I had no idea. I personally cant help it but to think that the person I am talking to is mentally challenged if I see a grown up (18 years or older) native English speaker writing as poorly as that Dreamcast guy.
My English is far from perfect, especially on these forums as I am pretty lazy when it comes to spell checking (which is why I often edit my messages soon after posting) and I am forced to use a weird keyboard layout at the moment, but I still think that its passable. I dont speak English natively and I learned to write it by watching American movies and playing a lot of video games as a kid, so I assume that people from England, Australia, America, NZ etc should on default be able to write better English than I do.

Just for the record, I am not belittling others or bragging about my intelligence, as I am a mediocre guy in that regard. I just think that if people who do not speak the language natively can learn it pretty effortlessly just by watching movies and playing games, people who talk the language natively who have been studying it in school from age 6/7 up should be able to do the same unless they really have a serious problem like dyslexia or mental handicap of some sort.

I have seen a lot of young gamers on the internet from around the world (Scandinavia, Germany, Russia, Eastern Europe, SE Asia, Brazil etc) who write far better English than most native English speakers. Its an intresting phenomenon as in most cases they learned to write English fluently mostly thanks to video games, fantasy literature etc - the same stuff native English speakers play and read!

Its a good point about the quality of the spelling etc that is generally seen all over the net coming from people with a different first language, but poor language skills don't equate to low intelligence and yes dyslexia can have a massive effect on how somebody reads and writes.

And made quite a few friends in the process,i will be the first to admit i am technologically challenged when it comes to computers.

I said "I personally cant help it but to think", its not the same as stating that every one who has poor grammar is stupid. Although I firmly believe that there is correlation between poor writing skills and low intelligence due to lack of education and so on. Still Im sure there are savants who cant tie their shoelaces or write English properly who still understand quantum physics and have I.Qs of 200, but thats not the point here :)

I think people with certified dyslexia had 20-25% more time to do their exams in my old school, but they were still judged upon the same standards as others. I guess even more severe forms of dyslexia do exist then? It was kinda of a debated subject too

I usually like to read over stuff a couple of times anyway to make sure I have everything right in my head before I respond. I don't know if that makes me stupid or what, but I guess that's why I don't mind the tiny bit of extra effort it takes to understand someone who maybe doesn't have the greatest writing skills.

Unless a post is what should be three paragraphs long and has no punctuation, I can usually figure it out, so I don't see why it's so hard for you guys with superior English speaking/reading/writing skills to do the same.

There are certainly people with more severe forms, but I also think it depends on whether or not an individuals problem was noticed and dealt with early enough, as well as the persons own tenacity and intelligence level of course. One of my best mates was officially diagnosed with it in his early teens, he never called on any of the help available to him and just stuck with it. Today he's probably reads more novels than anybody I know. Everyone is different and handles problems differently.

I know a good many dyslexic adults that were just told be the teacher that they were backwards and that was the end of it. I don't think many people have to put up with that anymore, at least in this part of the world.
