Re: Together Retro: Soul Calibur
I thoroughly enjoy the Soul Calibur series, III aside. Along with Tekken Tag, it was the party game of choice during my early college years (for some reason we also played that Wu-Tang fighting game...I think it was because we had four controllers and a 4-player adapter).
Soul Calibur is also the first game I ever played on a digital projector. I was floored at the attention to detail. I couldn't believe that I was playing a fighter, and I could see Kilik wink. Even when I play Soul Calibur on the DreamCast now, I love the little nuances and attention to detail that makes the game gorgeous.
And also along with Tekken Tag, my favorite way to play is solo. I really enjoy wiping out the games memory, going to time attack, and re-unlocking every ending, character, and outfit. The endings are better in Tekken, but unlocking extras in Soul Calibur takes very little time, and I still have yet to be bored with it (III aside).
Speaking of, I'm not sure I've unlocked everything in IV yet. To the game room.

Re: Together Retro: Soul Calibur
It was fun to do for a TR, but it's just sad that not many were on it. I really wish I didn't miss last years (KOF 98) cuz I had that on DC and I'd also play on MAME for sure
Oh well. It got me to replacing my DC much faster than I'd probably would have to begin with.
On to the next month!

Hopefully April's will turn out better, I'm looking forward to revisiting THPS.
Re: Together Retro: Soul Calibur
Tsk, tsk. You should have never left THPS. I can say this with ease, 3 & 4 are probably the most fun to play, but I prefer 1, 2 and 2x because there is still somewhat realism in the game.GameMasterGuy wrote:I'm looking forward to revisiting THPS.
But back to the topic, I'm still riding the Soul Calibur Bus (again not so much for SC 3). Easy to pick up, hard to put down. Easy to learn, difficult to master. It's one of the few fighting games including weapons where I feel like I am actually controlling both the character and weapon in unison.

Re: Together Retro: Soul Calibur
Not *that* hard to master, just tedious. Besides one combo per character, every special move can be pulled of with ease. The only thing standing in the way of you memorizing all of them is the fact that there's a ridiculous amount per character.

In who? And how come?this past month, Soul Calibur lost itself a fan.

me. I played SoulBlade, SC2, SC3, SC4 and I just got so incredibly bored with the series.CD AGES wrote:In who? And how come?this past month, Soul Calibur lost itself a fan.

Noise went on about how Soul Calibur was bland and had nothing to talk about, or something to that extent.CD AGES wrote:In who? And how come?this past month, Soul Calibur lost itself a fan.
