Yeah.

It's not so much that there's no (entirely) happy ending. That's fine. I'd have been surprised if there was, honestly. But it just fails to deliver in so many ways, especially as the ending to the whole trilogy.

While I have read that a fair bit of sidequests/etc were cut from preview releases, it was still a great game for the vast majority of it.

This article summed up most of my complaints about it.

It's one of those things that you just realize how bad it is the more you think about it.

I've already braced myself for a horrible ending. I'm just going to try and enjoy the ride....and not worry about the horrible crash waiting for me at the end.
I can't stress enough how much better the game got once I picked up the content that comes from the From Ashes DLC. Plop down the extra few bucks for it and be sure to do it early on in the game.

I do have the DLC. I will definitely play it and absorb whatever info it has to present.

ULTIMATE SPOILERS, don't click. But for those of you who have beat it, seen this?

Brilliance, or hilarious coincidence. Anyways, that video alone makes the ending awesome in its own way. The video is probably too good for Bioware's own good. True or not, awesome video.

Begs the question though, why do people have to download extra content in order to make sense out of the ending? Oh well, it's 2012, I guess we should just get used to companies openly screwing us with DLC.

The DLC didn't help with the ending, it made a lot of the other missions more interesting (provided I used the DLC "content" on them).

Exactly, you know a ending is bad when fans can come up with a indoctrination theory that works or when my mid 40's dad who had never played but watched says the ending sucks. There are so many loopholes and plot point, plus it fails in three ways, It fails its genre, Mass Effect was always more techy, talkie like Star Trek, then they throw it out the window in the end, fails on character story plus another which all lead to lack of Narrative.

On other note recently the take back mass effect movement raised over 1000 dollars and then sent 400+ cupcakes to bioware's main office, all the same except for the icing which was either red, blue, or green, with A, B, or c on top of them. Plus a letter saying what fans disliked about the ending and how they could improve it. Bioware's response to being stuck with three choices they did not like that where all basically the same was to take a 4th option out and donate them to a homeless shelter. too bad we did not have a 4th option.

I will give them credit for basically destroying the re-playability of 3 games spanning 120+ hours in just 5 minutes.

must watch video explaining why fans are mad!

Ah, we'll that's good. Hopefully, it'll give me a little gameplay edge too as I'm doing my first playthrough on Insanity mode. Should be fun!

Trying not to watch those, don't want any more spoilers than I've already gotten. What I've played of ME 3 so far is quite good. I can't imagine how these seemingly competent writers could have messed up the ending so much. Weird. Maybe they just didn't have enough time with big budget deadlines. Maybe what others perceive as bad is something they thought was clever or brilliant. I guess I'll have to see for myself.

What is it with trilogy enders being sucky? Spider-Man 3, X-Men 3, Terminator 3, course I'm talking movies but Mass Effect certainly feels on par with any big budget movie trilogy. I guess it's true what they say. The hardest of telling any story is the ending. Doesn't matter how impressive a gymnast is if she can't stick the landing.
