Hack-n-slash and action-RPGs, but not turn-based RPGs so much. There are rare exceptions like Legend of Legaia but for the most part I stay away from turn-based battles and random-encounters.
You might still like it, since it's not really a menu-intesnive turn-based battle system, and the strategy part replaces random encounters.

My profile here is correct. I'm 29. I played Duck Hunt when I was 5 and got my own NES for my 6th birthday.
Nothing on the 3DO, Saturn or PS1 comes close to Super Mario 64. They had 3D games, but they looked and played very primitive.

Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider. Nothing else to say.

I wouldnt call Crash Bandicoot a "True" 3d game. There was no openness like Super Mario 64 and tomb raider controlled like ass. Spyro on the other hand would be the best comparison to SM64 and that still played clunky.
The only thing the PS1 had over then N64 was RPGs and Paper Mario fills that hole pretty good.

And shmups. Are there any shmups on the N64 besides Star Soldier and Galaga/Galaxian on the Namco Museum cart?

Theres Space Invaders but besides that, shmups are a dime a dozen.

N64 was the king of 3D platforming and the go-to machine for party games and multiplayer. Saturn had a lot of cool quirky niche titles and excellent arcade ports. Ps1 had RPGs out the ass. I'm happy to own all 3.

Summed it up very nicely.
