What are you listening to? [VGM Edition]

The Super Castlevania IV OST is a phenomenal soundtrack to listen to while trying to fall asleep. I hadn't fallen asleep with headphones in since college.

Do you guys have any recommendations for soundtracks that are similar to it? So far I'm thinking parts, just parts, of FFIX have that theme going for it, but I'm hoping for SNES games. Thoughts?

The same composers did the music for Axelay, and there are some good tracks there, but few soundtracks are as cool as Castlevania IV's is.

Some of Castlevania's funkiest moments remind me a little of The Adventures of Bayou Billy, which has the funkiest soundtrack in NES history.

The soundtrack to Krater has an interesting story behind it. Basically it's an inspired composition for an abandoned 80's film. I never played the game but the soundtrack on its own is worth a listen. Hopefully we'll be hearing more from the Swedish musician behind it.

Super Ghouls n' Ghosts a bit maybe? A bit more melodic though, incredibleness nonetheless. Maybe some Actraiser... eh yeah nothing, CV4's OST is just crazy and so out there.

More SSH and Thunder Force IV. Never gets old.

Nor does the original Metal Squad. Best song on the Genesis.

Parts of ActRaiser have a similarity that's surprisingly more reminiscent of it than even Dracula X, but yeah, SCVIV is a league of its own.

Yeah I can definitely see that, it is funny how Dracula X's music is pretty different. I'd say perhaps Circle of the Moon might be closest in style, but the GBA's sound definitely gives it a completely different vibe... still badass in its own way though, love the CoTM music.
