I'm going to deem that statement painfully on-topic.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I think the main problem the 3DS has, and will likely continue to have, is that what is/was intended to be the big selling point of the system - 3D - just plain isn't selling systems.

Good games will eventually move the hardware, but they would have done so had Nintendo simply made it the DS HD or something. I just don't see the logic of that focus, outside of a marketing gimmick. The dual screens and touchscreen on the DS, unnecessary as they may be for some games, actually give developers new possibilities for game design. Motion controls on the Wii, same deal. 3D on the 3DS? Not so much. If you can turn it off anyway, it can't be central to game design, so it's just fluff.

Yeah, I think I'm going to have to play that game offline. I remember the same shit happening while I was playing Cross Edge. Nothing immerses you into a game more than having a message pop up that reads: "RandomIdiot69 sent you a message: IS IT GUD?"

Damn this thread from the mentioning of the price drop right up to everyone pointing out the uselessness of the handheld really makes me feel dumb for buying this at full price last month :(.

Well I will say that the battery life doesn't mean much to me since I play this thing at home plugged in all the time anyway. And the OoT remake was completely amazing to me, graphically looked like a current-gen game, and nothing about the gameplay is broken and still feels fantastic. My only 2 complaints are the poor 3D viewing angle, as well as the thumbstick is horrible. It's small and smooth so my thumb slips right off that thing a lot of the time. If I had to make a 3rd complaint it'd be the lack of decibel level on the speakers, though that's only minor since I play it at home in a quiet environment. Here's hoping this thing survives and doesn't make me feel like I invested $250 in the virtual boy 2.
Nintendoes what Nintendon't!

In Nintendo of America's own press release, they used 830,000.
Yeah, apparently I was way off.
However, I've since read that this number only includes this fiscal year, so eight hundred thou doesn't appear to represent the actual total number sold.

Hopefully the price cut helps! Now we just need more games.

How much you wanna bet Nintendo won't rush a console to the market again. While I think Nintendo will eventually find success with the 3DS, I thought the DSi still had plenty of life left in it and I think the 3DS unnecessary at this time. Apparently the public thought so as well.

There is a number of reasons the 3DS isn't printing money like the DS. The economy sucks and the unit was overpriced, it had software issues and no must play games upon release and still doesn't. Not to mention peoples interest with 3D is fading and some never liked it to begin with. And Nintendo, get off the damn rereleases, everyone and their mother has played Ocarina of Time and Star Fox over 1000 times already.

Another thing is, lets not forgot 7 years ago when the DS was released. It didn't exactly set the sales charts on fire upon release either. I wanted one, but held off until I tried Kirby Canvas Curse. It was game over when I played that masterpiece and bought one that day. All this system needs is a game that really shows the consoles strengths, something Nintendo is usually pretty good at. I will buy one eventually once some great games are finally released and this price cut just makes it more appealing.

irixith wrote: Now they're offering 10 NES games and 10 GBA games to these so called ambassadors. Gee thanks Nintendo, more reliance on the past. Where's the new content? Where is the 3DS content more specifically? We can play and emulate NES and GBA on a bevy of different systems in an equally diverse number of ways. Playing a single-screen game on a fancy dual-screen device with nothing extra? No save states? This is a portable system after all, I can't always make it to an official save spot. Emulators seem to have that all figured out, what about you Nintendo? Where's the "x-factor" that makes us want to re-purchase your oldies again and again and again? Where's the killer app, the killer feature, the must-have?

There isn't a single one.
Pulling things out of our ass again irixith? Nice to see not much has changed round here.
I wasn't aware that I was pulling things from my ass that often. I'll have to stop, that can't be good for it..

..and I was just using save states as an example. A poor one, lol. Just trying to reference that emulators available to us the old fashioned way tend to offer far more in terms of flexibility than Nintendo's offerings. MasterBoy on the PSP is a great example. So much flexibility!

The 3DS is still a premature baby though, no matter how you look at it. :)

People complaining that OOT and Star Fox are rehashes... On a RETRO GAMING FORUM... Please. Haters gonna hate. Looks like we got some pretty hardcore Nintendo haters here. Oh well.

I bought the 3DS on launch. Never regretted. I think it's a great console, if anything it made me fall in love with the DS library all over again. No killer apps? Nobody has mentioned Shadow Wars yet. If any game is destined to be a cult classic is that game. It's awesome. The 3DS was a smart buy for me, I never bought into the DSi bullshit, THAT was a waste of money. I knew it would have paid off to wait for the true successor to the DS Lite and it did.
