re: lisalover's signature

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I don't get that at all. Multiple planets just meant instead of riding an elevator between the water zone and the fire zone you ride a spaceship.
Well I guess I mean I was just really skeptical about it at first (like I was before Prime came out, First-Person... WTF? low and behold it's one of my top favorite games ever... haha).

But yeah, it worked out fine honestly. I can say Prime 3 did leave me a little sour though with how damn easy it was, felt like 90% of the E-Tanks were thrown at your face and I remember it only took me like 10 hours to finish, when Prime 1-2 were a lot longer on first runs. Prime 2 was also brutally complicated and pretty damn tough, and I loved that... so it was quite a step down.

But I guess this is a completely different discussion... ... and just to make it clear I don't think HARD GAMES = GOOD! but yeah, haha. In this case here when the third game of a trilogy turns out to be incredibly easy compared to the other installments, it's just a little underwhelming to me when that happens. But all in all I'd easily argue it's one of the best and most consistent gaming trilogies I've ever seen.

Quoted because this guy knows what he's talking about. I still get shivers from the creepy scan data from the Pirate ship in Metroid Prime 1. The little slivers of information I read made me feel like I was being hunted down. It was a rare moment of immersion for me.
And you gotta love how most of that stuff is optional. Just like all the books and newspapers scattered throughout Deus Ex or something, I love stuff like this. Nice attention to detail.

... oh and just to be mean again though, them replacing composer Kenji Yamamoto for some damn reason on Other M was also a big mistake in my eyes. Maybe he was busy with DKCR? lol.

Am I the only one that considers games with that kind of story just lazy?

"Hur dur, lets stick a lot of vague text documents and audio recordings everywhere. Let the players figure everything out for themselves. And the ones that are unlucky enough to not be able to find all of them (Because of course we have to hide them) can fuck off and read the story summary on Wikipedia."

I mean if your game already has an amazing story and the documents and things are just bonuses then I think it's fine. But choosing to completely rely on them? Thats just terrible. And not to mention that it takes a good chunk of time out of your way. To read any of that stuff in a Metroid game you have to sit there for a minute and scan the damn thing first. And in games like Dead Space or Bioshock which use audio recordings you can't move from that spot while you're listening to it because if you accidentally get into a fight you won't be able to hear the words. And some of those audio recordings last forever.

Another reason why System Shock is better than BioShock.

Actually, I think that is a great way to tell a story. Possibly one of the better ways, as it plays to the strengths of interactivity. I loved how they did it in Half-Life 2, and thought it was the best way they could have delivered the story in an FPS. I admit that I do wish Other M was a bit more fluid and subtle in its story presentation, but for what it is, the story works just fine.
