Re: Satoshi Matrix Bead Sprites
i asked this before but didn't get a reply, but i'm still wondering how fragile these things are, esp. the big ones. anyone know?
Re: Satoshi Matrix Bead Sprites
If you wanted to, you could probably break one off with your bare hands. But most of them will be ok if you happen to drop it by accident.geozeldadude wrote:i asked this before but didn't get a reply, but i'm still wondering how fragile these things are, esp. the big ones. anyone know?

Dude, that Protoman is huge. How many pixels (beads) was that, roughly?

Re: Satoshi Matrix Bead Sprites
If depends if I iron them on both sides. Doing that makes them pretty resistant, but these are for art, they're not kids toy's tough. They can be broken if they fall from a great height or are abused. Generally speaking I only iron one side to preserve their splendor. If you look at other people's beadsprites you'll see they iron both sides, which in my opinion completely ruins their visual appeal except at a very far distance. Ironing only one side makes them half as strong, but makes them far more visually appealing.geozeldadude wrote:i asked this before but didn't get a reply, but i'm still wondering how fragile these things are, esp. the big ones. anyone know?
I actually calculated this before making the giant sprite. Protoman's a massive 7, 787 beads!Ivo wrote:Dude, that Protoman is huge. How many pixels (beads) was that, roughly?

Re: Satoshi Matrix Bead Sprites
hey look, already page 10!
okay guys, sorry for more Megaman but I just love the series too much. These games are everything to me.
Custom 8-bit Boss sprites from Megaman & Bass. From left to right and top to bottom: Coldman, Pirateman, Burnerman, Tenguman, Megaman, Bass, Astroman, Magicman, Groundman, Dynamoman.
Note that these sprites have all been color enhanced beyond the capabilities of the NES color pallet. I based their proper colors on official character artwork.

Re: Satoshi Matrix Bead Sprites
So I'm guessing you design them facing the opposite direction you want them so the correct side gets ironed?

Re: Satoshi Matrix Bead Sprites
precisely. Always consider what you iron will look best when mirrored.
here's my latest sprite!
The Valis heroine, Yuko Asao from the PCE CD remake of Mugen Senshi Valis, easily one of the best games on the platform.
I'm quite pleased how well this turned out. Ever the tinkerer, although a full color 16-bit sprite, even this sprite is color enhanced. I knew it would be quite fragile, so I reinforced her sword with transparent beads. I think it makes it look better, too!

That's very impressive, though I admit I'm surprised at the choice of Valis. I don't see that one get talked about too often.
