goddammit!
I've been trying to beat Mission 3 for about an hour and a half. I'm really really stuck on this part where you have to do a lot of jumping from platform to platform. Fuck FPS platforming man. That shit is terrible. WHY did anyone think it was a good idea?

There's a fair amount of it in some of the levels...if you don't crouch, sprint, and jump accurately you will fall to death on more than one occasion. I am generally against platforming in FPS games, but I can't say it bothered me in this game because the controls and the speed felt silky smooth throughout. The platforming sections never were especially lengthy, nor did they feel thrown in just to give the player something to do - the environments all felt quite realistic and the jumping seemed to make sense.

finally beat that part, but it took me at least a dozen tries. I just hate FPS platforming. I am absolutely no good at it. Truth be told, I'm not all that experienced with FPS's anyway. Not really since Doom or Duke Nuke have I put much time into any of them. (I've never played Metal Of Honor, I hated Metroid Prime, etc). SO yeah this part is difficult for me. BUT as glad as I am to be done with that Mission, I must say the level design was brilliant. Took me a long time to realize that one switch in the center could be switched multiple times to open one of four doors. I just thought it only opened one. Very cool.

I'm also stuck on that level in the jumping part. I have a question, after jumping from box to box (or column) do you jump from the ledge to the open door? I ask this because I tried multiple times and have not yet made it across, the jump seems a tad bit too long.

yeah -- that's the jump that took me so long. Honestly, I must have tried 10 times to make that one. But yes, it is possible. I just did it! Haha. It seems too damn far, but that's it. And once in you're pretty much done with the level man, so just stay strong and keep trying!!

I'm on level 11 (?) the imperial city. Unless Dark XL is handling the physics a bit differently in places, I haven't had to crouch jump anywhere. Just sprinting and jumping occasionally and clearing gaps with ease as long as I was pointed in the right direction.

There are places where crouch jumping gets you into some hidden or out of the way rooms. On the ice level, for example, you have to do it to get into one of the rooms near the conveyor belt. There are other examples, too...

You mean couching
after jumping? I thought maybe you mean some sort of power jump think like Half Life 1 has.

crouching after jumping might work too, but I usually used crouch, forward, then jump.

Woohoo! My copy of Dark Forces is out for delivery.

I can't wait to start playing tonight, I'll have to decide whether I'll play through using epsxe or just on the PS3. I will, however, take screenies on epsxe while I have it running on there.
