They had a price hike recently for new people that wanted ether DVD's or DVD's and downloads.

Last time I checked, you get a free trial week if you download the Wii's Netflix channel. I don't know if the offer is still active though.
Netflix always has trial offers for a week or two. I have been on the 1 or 2 blu-ray plan for longer than I can remember. Currently, I am only on one because it manages to keep me busy between gaming, streaming, and torrents
