Just wanted to pop in here and drop:

For Frog the Bell Tolls (Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru)

I juuuuust recently, finally got my hands on a copy and although I'm only a couple hours into it, I love it on the same level as most of the other classic first party Nintendo Game Boy titles. If you ever get a chance to play it, do so. It's like an RPG mixed with elements of the first three Zelda games. Even in Japanese the game is playable and to make things easier there is a pretty nice walkthrough available online. (and apparently even a fan translation is in the works.)
In my opinion, it's 'must experience' game for any of us that grew up with Link's Awakening in our pockets.

I'll also vouch for Donkey Kong 94', Metroid II, and every single Game & Watch game.

it was actually the basic for Link's Awakening... Link's Awakening was built on Frog's engine. It even shares some sprites.

Sword of Hope 1 or 2. RPGs which you roam around similar to Deja Vu, the Uninvited or Shadowgate.
If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

The prince you gather the five golden leaves for is the Prince from Frog. This is on my "want but know it will be hard to find" list.

Battletoads,a gameboy version of Battletoads with completely different levels, moderatly difficult, but very fun, only gripe is that it doesnt have a 2player mode :(

SML2:Six golden coins:followup to the original SML,this game offers a save option, more worlds, more levels and just overall a great game

Batman:Gameboy port of the NES batman game, its is just a run and gun platformer, one of the better batman games in my opinion

Pokemon Red & Blue:Released at the very tail end of the [original] Gameboys lifecycle, these games boosted the Gameboy back into business,it [Pokemon] has become a multi-million dollar franchise, great games

Donkey Kong land:Released as a gameboy version of DKC on the SNES,this game had very advanced graphics and sound for a gameboy game, though not as good as the SNES games,it still is a wonderfull game, hard as hell too!
