Re: convince me to get a ps3
Superior ports of all the multi-platform titles. Blu-ray. The most durable discs alive (seriously though, you can't break them unless you actually try to.)
Re: convince me to get a ps3
The main reason I went with the PS3 was stability and options. The PS3 has a ton of options. I can use any controller I want. I can use any hard-drive I want. I have no region lock. The PS3 gives me a ton of freedom and, unlike Microsoft, Sony doesn't try to limit that freedom by locking out unlicensed controllers and memory devices.
I'm not sure why you have to be 'convinced' to buy a PS3. I feel no reason for anyone to convince me to buy an X360. I already know what games I want for it, and those games (all two of them - Earth Defense Force 2017 and Dead Rising) aren't enough to make up for all the headaches I'll likely have to suffer. If the reasons you want a PS3 aren't enough, then it's not like any of us are going to convince you. If it's something that weighs that heavily on you, do the homework yourself.

Bayonetta is a piss-poor example. Most games aren't ports made by another development team entirely.
Most games are inferior on the PS3, but not by such a wide margin. Heck, in rare cases, the PS3 version actually is superior. The Saboteur is a recent example, where the PS3 version actually has better looking graphics than the X360 and even PC versions.

While the Saboteur may not be an A-grade game, it still shows that third-party developers are starting to learn some tricks with the once "impossible to work with" PS3
Breetai: 60GB models have the absolute highest fail-rate. That's the entire reason I skipped them. PS2 BC was not worth the risk of losing such a huge investment, especially when I already had a perfectly functioning PS2. Considering all but two of my friends who had 60GB units have since traded in for a slim - usually because their unit started acting funny - I'd say PS2 BC isn't worth it for most folks.

Re: convince me to get a ps3
If you need convincing from other people I don't think you should buy it.
Thats my take.
Thats my take.
Older. Not wiser.
Re: convince me to get a ps3
I'm guessing that "absolute highest fail-rate" is a hell of a lot lower than any 360 out there. Sources on fail rates for this model? Mine's been doing fine since day one.the7k wrote:Breetai: 60GB models have the absolute highest fail-rate. That's the entire reason I skipped them. How many of your friends had 60GB units in total?
As for the OP's main request, "convince me to buy a PS3"... I think you should be convinced to decide things for yourself. There are thousands of threads on this same subject all over the internet. Don't make redundant threads.

Yeah, I'm sure it's a lot lower than any 360 as well. As far as PS3s go, however, the 60 GB units had the actual PS2 hardware inside of it, plus all the media ports and other bells n whistles. That's a lot of heat generation and less room for it to breath.
I have six friends that got 60 GB units, and four of them passed them on to get the slimmer, more reliable units. One of those keeping it is only keeping it because he just got it about a month ago, and the other is so busy with work that I haven't seen him sign on in weeks.

Well, mine works fine so I'm happy! I do have a spare JPN PS2 if my PS3 ever bites the dust and I replace it with a new model (it's also Japanese).

sometimes i wonder, if you guys were in a conversation with mike myers from wayne's world, and he said "shyeah, and monkeys might fly out of my butt!", if you'd honestly ridicule him for that being completely and utterly impossible, then list a variety of reasons supporting its logical and physical impossibility.
i'm probably going to get one anyway, and was before i made this thread, i was just looking for some pointers and some reasons why people like theirs. perhaps i should have been more specific.

I actually think this if offset somewhat but the PS3's better controller, not to mention the luxury of having the game on better media(blue rays are built to last). Frankly, the difference in quality between third person ports on the 360/PS3 is just due to lazy ass developers who just don't care and there's just no excuse for that.
I love my PS 3 because it's quiet, blue ray discs are better for collector minded people who want their games to last, the ease with which you can transfer things to a PC, region free player, better and MORE exclusives than the 360. Sony has the best exclusive support out there with Insomniac, Naughty Dog, Team Ico, Sucker Punch, the God of War team, etc. Sony knows talent
It just feels like a system built for the more demanding gamer. It's the same with the PSP, it is FAR better than the DS in what it's capable of.
Not to knock the 360 or DS, but Sony really have some fantastic gaming machines in the PS3/PSP. It's just high prices, bad marketing and bone headed decisions on their part that have hurt the profitability and popularity of the two consoles

Get the 60GB model.
Pros: it does everything
Cons: nothing
There's one con that I can think of. 180w versus 73w. In other words, it runs a lot hotter than the newest model.
